Forgotten Action Platformer (Request for Game Identification)

Oh boy, it's been a while since I played this game. Back when I still used my old Mac Performa (well over 15 years ago, putting myself at roughly age 7) I played an action platformer game very similar to Abuse but with more varied environments and, if I remember, higher resolution graphics (but none of the dynamic lighting effects that Abuse had).

My memories are pretty scrambled, but I'll try to say what I remember about the game. You play as a typical guy with a gun who can run around and fire a powerful weapon on a 2d side-scrolling platformer environment. The game starts you in a Hub where level entrances are simply accessed from areas stacked on top of one another with the player in the middle. I think that the entrances were teleporter pads but my memory on that part is really fuzzy.

The first level was very similar in environmental tone to Abuse, but with a bit more grit. Metal walls and floors, some very large-open rooms and then some crazy hallways. I remember specifically that there was an enemy far into the level that was a brain in a jar walking on very tall robotic legs that would fire a gun down at the player. The level ended very simply with entering a door or something.

The second level was completely different from the first level. It was a womb-level (that is, a level that appears to be set inside of a monster or giant creature) and was entirely vertical with the player attempting to make his way down. Along the way there were harmful blood geysers and some things that would generate harmful bubbles(?). At the bottom there was some sort of gigantic heart that the player had to destroy, but destroying it would cause an explosion that would flood the floor with harmful blood that would usually result in my character dying instantly. I don't think that I ever beat that level.

At the time my family was subscribed to Mac Addict which sent us tons of demos and freeware games on compilation discs every month and we bought rare games at conventions and flea markets (still looking for my copies of Simpsons Wolfenstein and Ninja Busters). I can't find the disc for the game anymore and I've scoured the internet (and this site) in search of it.

This site has helped me find tons of games that would have otherwise been lost to me, like Jump Raven and Catacombs. I was hoping somebody would hear that description of the game and have an idea of what I'm talking about. I'd greatly appreciate any input and apologize for my fuzzy memory regarding the details.
