G5 2.5GHz DP PowerMac Debian Wheezy help pls

I know this isn't a "Linux" help site, but some of you out there may have some experience in this.

The G5 PowerMac has 2 processors (64bit) and a 128MB Radeon 9600XT (from memory).

I have backed up the RAID-0 Stripe (huzzah!) and I am ready to wipe BOTH 250GB HDDs and begin. I have the Wheezy ppc64 install DVD. I would like a dual-boot system, but each on a different HDD. This may be difficult to accomplish. I know for a fact that there is still a PPC binary for fglrx proprietary graphics driver from ATI (unlike NVIDIA!!!).

Any help or guidance would be most gratefully accepted.

Cheers,

themacmeister

Should just be a matter of booting the install dvd, wiping one of the hdd's and installing.

The G5 will happily dula boot OSX and Linux from 2 different hdd's (both the system picker and OSX system preferences pane will see the linux disk as a bootable disk)

hmmm, I tried that, but the Linux drive was not bootable... I believe the Linux formatting tools screw up the required Apple partitions that are essential for booting a PPC. I believe if you use Disk Utility (or even OS9 tools) to format a partition as ANYTHING, and then just reuse/reformat that PARTITION, then the install will work (enough room to install yaboot to Apple partition).

PS. If you wish to use OS9 (like on a G4 iMac or similar compatible model) then it CANNOT be on the same disk a Linux. I also read that MacOSX and Linux cannot be on the same hard drive (but that has been debunked since reading it) ??!??

Please correct me if I'm wrong

Thanks for the help, I am going to attempt this tomorrow at a friends house. The worst part is lugging everything over there and back... sigh.

Cheers for all the help. More news soon
