HVFExplorer and .bin file

I am replaying an old Mac game called Theldrow and using Mini vMAC. I have been having a hard time finding a particular place in the game, so I searched some old groups through groups.google.com and came across reference to maps that were made by the author of the game to help players: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/comp.sys.mac.games/theldrow$20find/comp.sys.mac.games/RuFEnhQhtHc/hFKm22xlowsJ

Eventually, I was able to track the file down to this location:
http://cd.textfiles.com/garbo/MAC/GAMES/THLDRWMP.BIN

However, I cannot open it. Is it in a Stuffit format or a Hypercard Stack format? Or? I had problems with HVFExplorer saying that the MacBinary format was unsupported or unknown when I tried to copy the file unto a .dsk volume. If somebody is able to open this and view it and put it into a PC workable format, even if it is just a series of screen captures, that would be awesome. Been trying hours to get it to work. Can't.

That is a HyperCard stack in that bin file, but it appears to be damaged. Unbinning with Stuffit 5.5 produces a disk error and a file that does not have a type and creator. Setting that manually permits HyperCard to open the file, but I did not go into the stack past the first card to see if it flakes out.

Hm, was working for me.
Feel free to try the .img here: http://ubuntuone.com/21Ymw7Vtg5YNJoUOHwepxK
I included HCard with the map to make sure to run on common grounds.
If you are using MiniVMac, simply drop the Map.img onto the running emulator´s window.
Depending on your kind of installation, you may have to locate some fonts to have the HCard stack displayed decently.

Which system and host are you using for Theldrow, Ramognino?
MiniVMac 6.0.7 on a 10.6.7 host seems to crash a lot with Theldrow. Sad

I'm running Mini Vmac with a 7.5.3 OS and a Quadra dsk. Originally, I tried and was using Basilisk II, but have had all sorts of problems with Basilisk II to the point of surrender. I didn't think Mini vMac would work with the set up, but inadvertently associated the .dsk file with Mini vMac and then ran it without meaning too, and I haven't had it bomb on me (yet). The only problem I have had is with the abandoned temple altar, but from what I read, it is a normal bug in the Theldrow version I have.

I freakin' love Theldrow. I remember finding a bug that gave me negative (infinite) gold. I never wanted for anything Smile

Great, I'm at the end of the game now, and when I try to drop an item as required to win the game, the game bombs on me. Hahaha.

Too bad. For some games a real Mac is recommendable. Smile
If you don´t mind playing again, Basilisk_II and SheepShaver seem to run the color version.
FusionPC might be worth a shot too. FusionPC seems to be the most compatible emulator for games from the Mac_II era. It needs a DOS (W95/W98) host to run though.

Well, I figured out what was bugging it out. I read somewhere that dropping items can cause the game to crash. So, I went throughout the entire game and picked up everything that I dropped, sold it, etc. And it stopped crashing on me. It is too bad that no sequels were ever made. I know that the creator of the game released its source code though. Anyhow, I have finally beaten a game from my childhood. Smile
