400 or 800 ? I have a few spare from my LaCie / WD external drives.

It'll be a 400 (6pin to 6pin???), for an original USB 1.1 G4 iMac (700MHz).

Don't know ANYTHING about firewire at all. The cable I have may be for video camera?

The cable you are looking for is a 6-pin to 6-pin 1394A (not B) cable. They are available at all the normal sources for $5 to $10 (USD) depending in the length you need.

The cable you have is very likely a 4-pin to 6-pin flavor. These were made popular by Sony who refused to put the 6-pon connectors on their devices.

The missing 2 pins supply power to the device and are thus "optional".

Thanks Gary, that is very helpful. I believe there is ONE on eBay, which I am going to grab right now.
