Ibook G3 900 OS9.2.2 disc

Hi, new here, old mac user since 1987, greetings to all, sorry me english

Past week, the HDD of my ibook died, and I decide to reinstall OS9... when I realize, I lost the CD for my ibook G3 900, OS 9.2.2 Sad

Finally I install a normal OS 9.1 and upgrade to 9.2.2, but... is not the same, i don't know how to explain, the OS9 in original disc was better

Someone have this disc?

Thanks for the help

I have eMac 9.2.2 disk which I have found to work on everything from the G3 Wallstreet to the G4 Quicksilver and all the powerbooks and iBooks in between. There used to be a copy here but the link seems to no longer be active.

There is also a segmented 9.2.2 disk here:
password and user name "mg" (mac garden).

Thank you for your reply, time, and files

Sorry to ask, but I just downloaded, and I get 11 files MacOS_922.sit.1 to 11

How I can open this? i tried stuffit in windows, and OS9, no luck

Stuffit 6 in OS9, complain about unsupported file, and Stuffit7 just do nothing

Any specific version or software to join this files?

Thanks

The way it is supposed to work is that you either double click the .1 file or drop the .1 file onto Drop Unstuff and the software should take over from there, rebuilding the 11 segments into a single .sit file. If I get some time tomorrow will post/upload some of my specialty disks. But I keep all of them in .dmg format and they will be OSX zipped so you will need an OSX machine with a CD burner (and Disk Utility) to turn them back into install CDs.

It is possible on Windows to make use of .dmg files using dmg2img to extract a .dmg to .img or to .iso - dmg2img.exe is a commandline tool that I've used with excellent results when I need a .iso from a .dmg source on Windows.

The Command line is simply: dmg2img -i filename.dmg -o filename.iso

(substitute "filename" with the name of the .dmg file to convert)

If you don't have dmg2img in your PATH, drop dmg2img.exe (and its dlls, bzip2.dll, zlib1.dll) into the same folder as where your .dmg file is located and navigate to that folder or directory via the command line before running the command.

There is only one Mac OS 9.2.2. There are a few minor differences between the various language versions.

So chances are you didn't install the various components in the same way as the original disk had.

Try experimenting a bit with the OS Installer to see if you can get closer to what you like.

Ok, thanks everyone for the reply!!!

sfp1954, thanks, finally like you said, I installed OSX 10.3, latest stuffit, and works great, now I get a toast file, perfect!!

In OS9 even with latest stuffit did not work, i think i will left OSX in a partition just in case

Now im installing OS9.2.2, i will give some feedback later

MikeTomTom, the toast was a ISO too, I just rename "toast" to "iso" and nero do the magic

about dmg2img thanks, I already use in the past for some OS9 stuff that people upload in dmg format Sad

Gary, there is small changes, if I dont remember bad, like different icons, or icon positions, thats all, but I want to recover my ibook just like original

Thanks for all

News,

Finally burn the CD, and when I go to install OS 9.2.1, say "This program cannot run on your computer. See the documentation for more information"

I think for this ibook G3 900, i need exactly the original CD that came with the machine

I think is same problem from this post

That is not a true 9.2.2 disk. It is 9.2.1 with auto update to 9.2.2.

You need to check to be sure that your machine will actually boot 9.2.2 or if it just supports Classic mode under OSX. Are you sure it is an iBook G3? The G4 iBooks did not support booting in OS9.
Find your EMC number (inside the battery cavity?) and check versus iBook G3/G4 models on everymac.com.

I have a few more things I will be uploading shortly.
Including iMac 9.0.4 restore - contains Bugdom!
And iBook 9.2.2 restore (also with Bugdom) - 3 CDs.
The 9.2.2 restore is meant to be run on an iBook with 10.2 or 10.3 installed to restore Classic function or OS9 boot capability if the machine supports it.

Hi!! thanks

Yes, I confirm is a ibook G3 900, i know very well, because i used it for programming, and I need to recompile a lot of stuff to remove altivec code Smile

Is a ibook G3 A1005 M9018LL/A, exactly this

http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/ibook/specs/ibook_900.html

OS9 works OK, if i install manually (from restore CD in OSX i copy the folders to partition and boot) but I want to install in a normal way

In a spanish mac forum, i read that another user had same problem, and finally the guy say the only way to install OS9 was to buy the original CDs in ebay

I hope i will have more luck!!!

I bought a 25CDR pack, to test more downloads... until find the right one Smile

Thanks very much!

The 3CD iBook 9.2.2 restore set is up.
This went along with a 2CD OSX 10.2 set (which I probably shouldn't post here - but if you need it we can work something out).
It came with 10.2 installed and then you ran the 3CD 9.2.2 set while booted in 10.2.
So the only way to "install" 9.2.2 may be to install 10.2 and then run the 9.2.2 restore CD set.
Remember at this time Jobs had declared OS 9 "dead" and they were doing there best to convert everyone to OSX.

I have a feeling they disabled OS9 CD booting in your model. Similar to the MDD.
The next model iBook was the 933MHz G4 which no longer supported any booting of OS9.

Finally... sorry for all troubles... thanks..!!!

You made!!! Smile my ibook have a the original OS 9.2.2 now

In the first CD, IBR1_922.dmg, inside, hidden, is the OS9.2.2 dmg to recover the OS9, 10 minutes later, and my ibook have a new life

Everyting is exactly like i remember, wallpaper, icons, exactly same like original. Now is time to start with software jejeje

I hope i can upload some software and help others too soon, i will check all my CD library, to try to found stuff that are not in this website

Really, thank you very much for all

Now i remember why, in 2003 or 2004 i decide to stop using the mac and switched to only PC... ahh.. this little stupids rules from apple..

I will never forget how much i love my 5200 all in one and powerfull Beige G3... and ..WTF!!? no OS9.2.2..? no OSX 10.3?? OS9helper and xpostfacto helps, but i was very dissapointed...
