List of discs of interest

I only have a 1Mbps connection, so I was thinking of "testing the waters" concerning the following disks I have:

1. Mac OS X 10.0 Internal Edition
2. Mac OS 9.1 Internal Edition
3. MacTest Pro Feb '96 for 680x0, May '98 for PPC
4. AppleCare, May '01 for iMac slot-loader, PowerBook with FW, iBook with FW
5. TechTool Pro 3.0.5, 3.0.6
6. Service Source 2.5
7. MicroMat Drive 10 1.0.4, 1.1.2
8. AppleCare for PM before G3
9. Service Source Companion 1, 2
10. Word Perfect 3.0
11. MacMedic Pro 2.4
12. MacBench 4.0
13. AppleCare Service Training CD (2000)

Which ones are desired?

So you may upload it into 4MB parts first. Use Dropstuff/StuffIt Deluxe. These all I have interested:

MacTest Pro Feb '96 for 680x0, May '98 for PPC: Interested
AppleCare, May '01 for iMac slot-loader, PowerBook with FW, iBook with FW: System software recovery 2 or protection plan?
AppleCare for PM before G3: What is the release month/date?
Service Source 2.5: What is the release month/date?
Service Source Companion 1, 2: What is the release month/date?
AppleCare Service Training CD (2000): Interested too

4MB parts is gonna be a hassle...I suppose I could enlist the services of someone I might know with a 15Mbps connection...

"AppleCare, May '01 for iMac slot-loader, PowerBook with FW, iBook with FW: System software recovery 2 or protection plan?"
It says: MacTest Pro Diagnostics on it.

"AppleCare for PM before G3: What is the release month/date?"
December 2000

"Service Source 2.5: What is the release month/date?"
December 1997

"Service Source Companion 1, 2: What is the release month/date?"
December 1997, April 1998 respectively.

The OS 9.1 Internal Edition has some mostly admin stuff on it, I haven't inspected 10.0 Internal Edition yet.

When I am able to obtain access to said 15Mbps internet, I'll do what I can.

With 1Mbps here, it's illogical to hog 50KB/sec upload bandwidth.

It'll have to wait a bit, but I'll be able to do it sometime within a month.

There are some floppy disk images I can upload: StarCommand 2.2.1 (for a Farallon StarConnector AUI to Ethernet adaptor), Snooper v.2.0, and TechTool Pro on 3 disk images. Someday.

...plus any of the floppies you sent to me that someone might want uploaded.

Those...I checked were already up. The MacTest Pro floppies were already up, good thing I checked because Disk 3 was bad out of that lot.

Except Snooper and TechTool Pro. Snooper worked well when I was testing the SE motherboard with the 16MHz 68000 (not 68020) accelerator.

I did toss most of the floppies, but I did keep MacTools and MacTools Pro, FWB Toolkit 3.0.2c, Disk Manager Mac version 4.0.2c, Anubis Utility, Asanté Product Configurator, and...where did I put the IIci and IIvx Service test floppies?

.....mmh. can't find them. Probably trashed them. They're just crammed 800K disks with (usually) MacTest Pro built for the specific model.

What kind of bundled software is on the OS X Internal Edition? I haven't seen any of those around.

"What kind of bundled software is on the OS X Internal Edition?"

I might find out tomorrow. Since my iBook has a blown CD drive (it's for sale btw), I'll use my 'mini in Target Disk mode to try and install it.

Mostly, it'll likely be like 9.1 Internal Edition.

Re: Sharing: Yeah, on your mediafire account? Probably. I'll probably upload to a 4shared account and let you pull the stuff off that way, unless there's a way to upload to your mediafire account.

You probably won't need to install it. I'm guessing the software will be visible on the disc. I was just curious because there wouldn't be as much free space on a OS X CD compared to a classic Mac OS one.

I was a blithering idiot and somehow managed to discard the iBook 900MHz restore discs I had. IF someone managed to upload the video drivers or better, the OS 9 install disk that installs OS 9 through OS X, that might accelerate my uploading enthusiasm by 150% Smile

Well I was foolish enough not to image them sooner than I should have. So that makes me behind you, since at least you ripped them Smile

It would actually be a good public service (or publick as it was written in the old days, or publik) as requests for that 9.2.2 install disk come in often. It is a nice iBook, powerful enough to run pretty much -any- Classic OS kit and goes in a nice package with the 12" display. Except if it wasn't for that %@#%! flexible motherboard, GPU issues and a teardown come from an engineer's playpen (60 steps from iFixit to pull the HDD), it would a /nice/ Mac.

Actually the previous motherboard in mine now /HATED/ 10.4.11. 10.4.0 was fine, but anything higher and it would cough and spit. You'd pretty much have to force-quit your way around things. Nothing worked smoothly. It also had a intermittent FireWire issue. It might decide to commit suicide in the midst of a transfer, or it might not. Given the atrocious transfer speed of USB 1.1, FW is pretty much a necessity.

Then one day it started the logic board issue. Wouldn't boot. Or it might lock up hard once it got to the desktop. Either way, I'm eager to get rid of it, but I'd feel bad with it not having something 9.2.2 capable on it.

I'll PM max1zzz and see what he says. I see a matching account on 68kmla, do you know if he's still active?

Not sure about the mla but Max is pretty active here.

I still have two 12" iBooks, but both have dead batteries and no charger. One is another 800 with the wonky GPU (amazingly the one I sold recently never developed this, and I had it since new). The other is a 500 that had a dead HD when I got it. So I've been through that particular exercise and I'll never do it again. Compared to the HD upgrade in my MacBook (remove two screws and a bracket) it's insane.

Mk.558: Well I don't want to spend my bandwidth quickly to download it from 4shared and upload back to mediafire, even I don't know for remote uploading to Mediafire. You can upload files to Mediafire without registration.

Excellent. While I don't have time right now, I'm sure this can get me going on the iBook.

May be able to upload this weekend. /Maybe./

One of my current distractions is my Classic Mac Networking Guide*. Fiddling around with 7.5.3 Network Access Disks. Tip: ...Not...really...possible.........I might test out if Mac OS 7.0.1 or 7.1 is possible. Could be. Every time I make a discovery or something, I end up having to spend lots of time reworking and changing things. EG the entire Network Access Disk section is under way to be entirely rewritten.

EDIT: BTW how exactly should I image the disks? I don't have Toast, nor do I really need it, I suppose just make the disk images in Disk Utility and put the CD/DVD Master selection? I suppose I could also use $ dd but $ dd is an excellent way to trip up the if= and of= locations and wipe an entire disk. I might start pulling the disks to an external HDD and uploading from there.

Edit: Replaced 'xxx 7' with 'Mac OS 7' - IIGS User

You have to use classic Mac OS emulator and use Disk Copy 6.3.3, make the Read-Only (Not compressed) image file for floppy images from original floppies or Toast versions for making CD-ROM images from original CDs and archive them using DropStuff (if it is higher than 200MB, segment the archive). And the disc images must be the original as the original CD-ROMs/floppy images, explanation here.

You can use Toast or Disk Utility. The trick is to ensure you image the whole disc and not just the Mac volume. Otherwise you risk leaving out the hidden boot/driver partitions. See my guide here.

I've only got one new clone CD (thanks to macwrench!). It's a UMAX one (S910, S900, J700). Still haven't unearthed any of the more obscure ones. The OS X Server I have is for the G4 Server (1.2v3), the same one that was upped here before. I have 1.0 but it's the same retail one that can be found all over.

protcol7, the Extensions folder stuff worked, the ATI Driver Update didn't.

I tried to run 9.2.2 Update just to clean up the System and all that but it kicked back an error saying it can't run on this machine. So yeah a OS 9 Restore disk that a cutie pie could upload would be nice Smile but OS 9.2.2 is working fine now. Gotta work on the CD dumps now...use the Mac mini in Target Disk mode since the iBook's CD drive is out for some reason.

Bad news: Can't image the disks properly. The creation and modification dates are borked. It doesn't make the dates "correctly".

Remember, you must use the old version of Toast (version 4.0 or earlier) or Disk Copy, not Disk Utility, make sure you must make read-only images, not read-write, and this step is very important, MAKE SURE THE IMAGE FILE IS LOCKED BEFORE YOU MOUNT or DISABLE AUTO-MOUNTING!

Please read these again: My guidelines | Protocol 7's guidelines

you don't have to use a old version of toast, i have used versions 10 and 11 and they create perfect unmodified copys, also using disk utility is ok as long as you are very carfull (use cd/dvd master option, make sure auto mounting is turned off)

I figured out what was going on. The disk image /itself/ might be created...let's say today, but after it is locked and then mounted, the dates are about right.

That whole confusion had me in a whirl there. Expect...Well, I could get the floppies uploaded. Found the II/IIx, IIci/cx Service Test floppies.

I'm not going to upload it via the high speed connection. Turns out they got only 1Mbps upload.

Dumped nearly all the CDs now, there's some other CDs in the folder I could also dump. Right now it'll total up to about 9GB, which is unreasonable for me to "borrow a computer to upload something".

Instead, what I can do is mail off an SD card to someone here or the like who has faster upload speed who can do it. Problem 1) I don't have an SD card that big, I only have one SD card and it's 2GB sitting in my P&S camera; 2) I don't have a SD card reader, using the camera as a transfer interface might work though (I should get one of those USB multi-card readers, I will need one for CF).

I can take snapshots of all the disks yada yada including the FDD dumps and throw it all in there.

Okay. Most of the disks have already been ripped and locked before mounting.

Two of the disks had I/O errors.

The floppy disks...will likely have to be reimaged, as...some may have been mounted before they were locked. (Curiosity and all that.)

Who's up for handling the stuff? As I said earlier, I'll dump it onto a 16GB SD card and toss it in the mail. Whoever takes it then uploads it to ______________. I'm not going to be uploading 9GB at 50KB/sec.

Said person can drop me a line at the 68kmla forums, I'm sometimes on the #68kmla freenode channel.

The SD card is in the mail...with...some additional CDs I forgot to image, and some that I considered unworthy of my possession (like MacMedic Pro, which I tested out and thought it was a cheap rip off of Norton or TechTool).

It should get there within two weeks. max1zzz says he should have fiber running hot there (in fact, that could have already happened).

The SD card has a folder of pictures of every CD and FDD that I had, aside from those that were burned via CompUSA CDs. Those....well, are nothing special.

Soooooo....a little time, let max do what he'll do, and that'll be that. Smile

What do you get besides the SD card? Also, you have to start uploading first to MediaFire, then I will try to download. If not (showing "File Belongs to Suspended Account"), try uploading them to your server.

I believe I included 05.00 System Recovery 1, it's a CD that I couldn't read. How does your Mac Pro read it? If you can't read it, I believe I may have seen it somewhere. Some mediafire archive.

What's the upload max bitrate for BA anyways? It doesn't say in the FTP Servers page.

i believe 05.00 system recovery 1 is available elsewhere, ill have a go at reading it though (i seem to be finding that there is sometimes multiple disks using the same name, i may be wrong though) as for BA, i believe it will take them as fast as you can upload them, i don't think there's a max rate

@sheep, yes, they are combing i still find mediafire to be unstable so it takes a bit longer to upload to there

max, you have everything in good integrity and all? You could do SHA1 dumps just to make sure, if you are not sure how just fire up Terminal and type $ opensll sha1, then drag&drop the file from the finder to the Terminal window and check to make sure it's G2G. Reason is I have the material all on an external right now in case there is a ...well, a slight problem...on your end. Kinda need the whole disk (it's split into HFS+ and FAT32) for a movie project coming up.

sheep, if you could do me a favor and ease up on the pressure on max -- figure he's got a life and it'll come when it comes. I don't see any content being linked from here anyways, and I took a look at the mediafire hosts and there are >0< downloads. :/
