Ok, so I left my Macintosh LC running for about an hour, and when I came back to it, all I got was a frozen Afterdark screen. I restarted it, and got no startup bong or video. Anyone know what's wrong?

Did you try restarting with extensions off? Or booting from a floppy?
If it's not the software, it could either be an overheated CPU or the power supply has gone bad.
[Edit] Do you hear/feel both the cooling fan and the power supply fans working?
Is that an LC I, II, or III? or some other LC family? Anyway do check the internal clock battery voltage. If it is under 3 volts (should be 3.6 v) then this would prevent an LC (I, II & III) from booting. It would appear dead, no start up chime etc. Hopefully thats all it is, as its an easy fix.
Ah yes, the battery. Forgot about that... I'm prone to think the worst on older Macs.
