Mac OS 9 for iBook G3

I need a regular retail image/dmg of Mac OS 9 to burn on a CD. All the links on this website for OS 9 are dead, and nobody will re-upload them. Can anyone upload a retail image of Mac OS 9, preferably 9.2.1? Thank you so much! I really need it!

EDIT: For me, English as main language of course..

Thanks!

Have you tried the Universal 9.2.1 dmg from this page? Universal means it will install to all compatible Macs including the iBook G3.

No, I hadn't seen them! I'm downloading the 9.2.1 Universal dmg. I noticed it's in a .zip file - is the dmg inside the zip? Thanks!

I'm not the uploader of those files, but it looks as tho' that's what they are; zipped .dmg archives. Please let us know if it works (or not) for you.

It won't boot! It burned, checksummed and everything fine, shows up in Puma, but simply will not boot. Neither will OS 9 on the same partition as Tiger. IDK what's wrong!!

Thanks. It also confirms my suspicion of this particular .dmg file. You're now the 3rd to report the same, even though it should be a bootable image, it is not.

There is a work-around to convert & make it bootable, if you already have a classic Mac OS system that you have access to (with Toast and a CD burner on the same machine). Do you have such a beast handy? It must be running Mac OS 9.2.2 or earlier.

Unfortunately I do not Sad
You could have told me beforehand that the .dmg wasn't working, and I wouldn't have wasted time and a CD.

Yes, I do apologize. The original uploader seems to think that it is bootable and I was not positive otherwise, until now.

I am going to upload a bootable version made from the dmg file you DL'd. I've tested it and it boots up my beige G3 OK (the earliest Mac model it supports). So if it can boot that Mac it will boot your iBook G3. I'm going to run a couple more tests on my bootable archive (write it back to CD and boot again, from the archive I want to place up here). When I do so, I'll place a notice to it in this thread. Should be in a couple of hours from now.

That's great news, Jonas. I'm glad that it worked for you at your end, too.

Still working fine, I will give it 5 out of 5!
