Mac Plus floppy "click of death"

I have a mac plus that i am hopeing to get back to working condition some time. the main problem is that it has a lot of points i discovered need to be solderer (on the flyback and the logic board to analog board cable), but that's not why I'm here.

The problem is that when it turn it on the floppy drive just clicks constantly, i have a external so i have just disconnected it for now, but i would like to get it working and was wondering is anyone knows a fix. i could just replace it, but the only 800k drive i have seen on ebay uk was £26 and i can probably get another plus for £15

From what I have read from various sources. You can use a more common and cheaper 1.4MB Mac floppy drive instead. It won't be able to format or read 1.4MB media in the Plus but it has no problem with 400k SD & 800k DD floppy disks which the 1.4MB floppy drive is backwards compatible with.

I hope this is true as its untested by me. That is, that the connectors of these drives are the same and it just plugs in. I'm sure the backwards compatibility part of the media is good.
