Mac SE30 woes

I turned on my SE30 for the first time in a month yesterday, and I got the dreaded ? Disk error. I tried formatting a floppy with my SE, then copying the System 6.0.8 system folder onto the disk, but the SE30 rejects it. How do i create a proper boot disk for it?

Typically I would create a floppy from a known good "Disk Tools" image file using "Disk Copy 4.2". If your SE has a 800k floppy disk drive, then you are limited to "Disk Tools" disks from 800 K installer sets only.

However, if the System Folder that you copied to that floppy disk is from a working SSW 6.x System, mount the floppy back into your (already running SE). Open the floppy icon if its closed, and double-click the System Folder icon in the floppy, then double-click the System icon itself. Once these open up, close them again (any open windows) and eject the floppy disk.

This should "Bless" the System on the floppy disk and make it bootable.

Make sure the floppy disk is unlocked when you do this AND when you use it to boot the SE/30, 1st time (as the SE/30 would likely want to rebuild the floppy's desktop file).

HTH.

@MTT, you sound like me (late teens->mid-20s), I was an ubergeek for Macs.

PS. That was a brilliant response!
