Hi!
MacDomain has undergone some major surgery (again and hopefully for the last time) and i'm sad to say that we are shutting down the Hotline server for good.
It has served us well, but it has seen a lot of abuse, mostly the last year.
Many, many people just leech without contributing anything to our community and we (me and fogWraith) feels that it has to stop. As an example, in March we had perhaps 5 or so posts in our forum and around 500 downloads from the server.
We are going to put all our downloads in the new forum software and locking it away so you have to be registered and make at least a number of posts before you can access them. More posts in the forum equals more downloads per day etc. The downloads will be presented in a very similar way to how they are presented here on Macintosh Garden, except that the files will be uploaded to our server and not to some unstable third-party file storage site.
We are not doing this to mess up for people, we just need to have more control over things.
We are still hosting the site and files at home, on a home server standing in a closet somewhere in Sweden. We pay for everything from our own pockets. The new server set us back almost $4000 USD. This way we can guarantee that our files wont disappear (we take backups of everything all the time) and the site will stay up most of the time.
So what do we need help with? I just counted all the files we had on the Hotline server and the total number is around 8000 files. We really need help making screenshots, posting reviews, sorting, testing etc. The people we choose for this is going to become admins over the new downloads section on MacDomain. All the info on how we're going to do the sorting will be sent out to the people we choose for the job.
If you are interested in helping us out, and keeping us up and running, please register on http://www.macdomain.org if you haven't already and send me a PM (I don't log in to MG very often).
You can post any questions you may have here in this thread
Thanks
