Just a downloadable demo (MAE 1.0 for Solaris). I've never seen the full version around and the demo needs a key to run.
Actually I think the demo in circulation is also incomplete. It's all a bit of a mess really. It seems to unpack/test fine.
Well, I have just finished imaging the "MAE-1.0 for Solaris 2.3" full version CD. See here. Having no Solaris box available, I cannot test it, but the image itself is mountable.
The MAE User's Guide does not mention an install key, so I guess it isn't needed for the full version.
This came up on Apple Discussions this week. I'm sure that there is plenty more to be found on this.
Apple Enhances Macintosh Application Environment For HP and Sun Workstations
According to the 1.0 readme there's a a 8-hour (!) trial period along with a lot of limitations. 3.0 seems much more useful as you get a 30-day trial.
Thanks ufk! I wonder if I can manage to get Solaris emulated in some way so I can try this out.
Virtual PC, the versio of Solaris required for this app is old enough to have minimal requirements from an emulated PC, so it shouldn't tax your Mac if it's a late G4 / G5.
If you're on Intel, then Parallels Desktop, or VMWare Fusion may be adequate. All you need to do is source a copy of Solaris for PC. Do you think OpenSolaris is workable ?
I doubt this would run under Intel Solaris. It would probably need an emulated Sparc. The best option right now would be tme, but I haven't the faintest idea how to get it compiled and running on OS X (or if it's even possible).
The demos are around (of at least 1.0 and 3.
. They use an ancient version of flexnet licensing which can be circumvented (but you're on your own there).
This only runs on ancient Solaris for SPARC.
The installer script for MAE 1.0 seems to be executable with Open Solaris in VirtualBOX4 for X86. Later, it terminates with an error
Still the installer does not tell you, that it can't work with Open Solaris. The MAE readme says it would run with HP-UX9.01 too. The PA-RISC computers with HP-UX could also run Linux, NetBSD, NeXTSTEP and OpenBSD.
It is only for the SPARC architecture not Intel, so no VBOX for x86!
It works on open solaris 2009.06 (X86)
I desperately need MAE 3.0
