Master of Orion I font problem

Hi. I have serious issue with council voting. I run game on LC II. Game works but it's really slow but still playable. When council voting starts font goes all messy and I can't figure what's going on, who am I voting for etc. The font looks as if outer space around each letter was displayed which it shouldn't but letter "body" is same color as background/not displayed, it also blends with background and other words and thus is nearly impossible to read it. I tryed to find known issues or some patch for this game but I can't seem to find anything useful. I don't know what to do, this council feauture seems to be essential.
In order to speed mac I have turned several extensions off but I have never before encountered problem like this one. Also I use Mac OS 7.1.

Edit: Replaced 'xxx 7' by 'Mac OS 7', see Muso TNT Limited for details - IIGS User

Any chance you have the 3rd party Control Panel "SmoothType" installed? Just an off-chance, but I found this messed with fonts badly in "Open" dialog box windows for me, in SSW 7.1 - any selected file name became unreadable.

A "Solra Bizna" on the MoO 1 page, suggests disabling the council voting altogether using ResEdit for a more interesting game play. Tho' as I haven't tried this game myself, I can only suggest reading that post yourself before considering such an action.

Thank you for reply
I don't have smoothtype installed but my mac system is czech/slovak version, I thought that this might be a problem but switching languages didn't seem to solve the problem. I guess I shall try disabling council voting if there is no other solution...

You're not the only one to encounter this problem, someone asked about it 19 years ago. No one had a solution then, either...
