MECS Compatibility List

Even today, there are so many issues with Macintosh compatibility on the emulators (best use a real Mac) and I was very unhappy with submitting changes to the MECS list...it was merely cut and pasted with no effort to actually mark differences (an important screen shot difference was in Holodeck Swabbie) and no credit was actually given me for submitting it (no email reply or a mention in the list), nor gave a description of my system. Since that bad experience, there needs to be a new database for MECS or something, as I find all sorts of issues with the games I play and used to play and MECS doesn't seem to have nearly the professionality of Wine AppDB, something to aspire to. It also lacks Mini vMac, which is vital in playing very old games.

I can host such a project (at least in a small state) but I won't be able to publicize it...is there any sort of way to create another database or are we stuck with MECS? (It would be nice to make a Wiki system of some sort)

I sincerely apologize for not responding to your email and not really adding you (Although I did add you under the name Psuedo3D in the list, the second kataetheweirdo was a mistake I overlooked and I fixed that. ). Admittedly, I also didn't add any distinguishing notes as who experienced what.

For a few years, I (naively) thought that someone else would have done a list better than what I have, and I was also trying to do stuff on my own (PPC Mac) emulator (really unfinished at the moment, with only the interpreter being worked on).

I can't actually upload your screenshot (I don't have the rights to actually upload your picture yet). I was only given permission to edit that page and nothing else. I've contacted Watchsmart to see if I can fix that. I've even considered myself to move to something greater, but I have yet to talk to anyone over that. The DokuWiki formatting is limited, and I can't really do any spreadsheets or something (Again I've wanted to discuss about this, but real life matters as well as putting more time into other sites have taken up precious time).

I'd be more than happy to give you permission to host it.

As for the Mini vMac stuff, I'll admit I should have added that the instant I started working on the sheet. However, when I started working on it, it was limited to 68000 Macs, which I didn't have any fondness for. Needless to say, I'll try to add some in if I can. The document is getting to be large (it's over 100 KB, which is way bigger than what I expected).

An interesting and good list all the same. Thank you.

An error I noticed tho', is in the info regarding Photoshop 3.x:

"Adobe Photoshop 3.0.5

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old Wold ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM – It’s not too bad, though there are a few slowdowns. (According to I Love Native, this is a PowerPC native application (that doesn’t run on 68K machines) and as a result, Basilisk II can’t run this)"

Photoshop vers. 4.0.1 was the final Photoshop to install and run on a 68k architecture. I use version 4 now exclusively on Basilisk II (build 142).
The earlier Photoshop vers. 3.0.5, which I've previously used OK on Basilisk II too, can install onto a 68020 or later Mac.

I suspect the person who wrote the above had tested a pre-installed copy of Photoshop 3 only (one that had previously been installed onto a PPC Mac).

Oh, OK. I was a bit worried that it was a poorly maintained list that would steal any ideas tossed to it, but now I understand. It also explains why there's no SimAnt icon, either, though I admit that for both Factory and SimAnt you have to use the 68k emulator, which works quite well in those instances. It does need a new host, and I can whip up a version soon.

(Yes, Pseudo3d is me, different handle)
