Mounting Disk Images in Basilisk II

Okay, this is probably a really stupid question, but how do I mount a toast image in Basilisk II? I don't use it much, so I don't know. Drag-and-drop doesn't work, and there's no preferences window like in SheepShaver.

I was going to say -

Leave the Toast file in OSX, Lock it. Mount it (with Toast). Start Basilisk II. It shows up when the System boots.

But I just tested it now, and it doesn't work. I was sure I'd play Diablo II LoD with a mounted disk image (part of the v1.12a patch), and when I finished and went into Basilisk II, the LoD is world show up, disk icon and all.

The poor mans way is to mount it in OSX and specify that as the External/Unix filesystem in Basillisk preferences, then it shows up as the "Unix" disk.

So there's no easy way to do it? Seems like a pretty important feature. Puzzled

How do I change the external filesystem? There's no preferences in any of the menus.

It's pretty easy,
within Basilisk, just open the TOAST application, (I use TOAST de Luxe 4.1.3)
then drag the .toast image onto the TOAST de LUXE screen and
ther's a button that says [mount] click, and that's all

you can now play it.

That's how I do it.

So I have to actually transfer the image file into Basilisk? Waste of space, but okay then...

Thanks.

That's the ONLY way I know of,

if I want to play it from the CD,
first I change the suffix .toast for .nrg and burn it with NERO as a disc image,
and then Basilisk will recognize it as a regular Mac game CD

(I use Windows XP but within Basilisk, it's the same as a Mac)

Some images can be mounted using the Basilisk II GUI. Just add them like you would any hard disk image. Give that a shot.

But how..? That's what I do in SheepShaver, but I can't find a way to do it in Basilisk.

The external filesystem is labelled as "Unix Root" in the BasiliskGUI app.

Or just burn the image to disc.

Strange, I don't have that program. Must be using an incomplete version or something.

Edit: Nice! I got it from their website and it's got that slick disk image thing that SheepShaver has. Thanks people! Smile

Did your Basilisk II have no GUI at all? That's not good! I'm glad you got the full download.

Well the old Basilisk Ii app (pre-Java based from about 2005 and earlier) didn't, it used Preferences within the app. I still use this too, it's more reliable and faster on older PPC Macs.

The current BasiliskGUI.app I use is based on PowerPC code. With the arriving of Lion and its expected lost of Rosetta (what a shame, if it comes true), will there be a change to see an Universal (or Intel-based) BasiliskGUI app?

In the past, I've tried to develop such an application, but Bas refuses to accept the preferences files written by my application, so I stopped development on this...

Thanks to vasi donating a BII-GUI for Intel OSX, it is available in this thread:

You can even MOVE your images to the top of the list for booting from different volumes.
