Mounting disk images in Basilisk II

I use Basilisk II occasionally, but I want to know a few things about mounting disk images and CDs in general.

1) It runs CD-based applications extremely slowly, whether they be from an IMG or an actual CD from that era.
2) Is there any way to mount a .TOAST or .DMG in Basilisk II? I have a DMG that was created from old floppies that my family had, and many .TOASTs are found on the Macintosh Garden. I would love to, for instance, load up my .TOAST of that BMUG PD-ROM I downloaded.

What options do I have? (I have the latest version of Disk Copy)

I thnk mounting the locked Toast image in OSX and then starting Basillisk worked for me.

Or is this what you're currently doing ? I used to play a bit Diablo II (with the locked mounted disc image) then quit and jump into Basillisk II, the Diablo II LoD CD image would show up on the Mac OS 7 desktop, with the correct icon too - which doesn't show in OSX.

Toasts should mount directly ... I think.

As for a dmg, there's a command-line utility called dmg2img that will work. Or convert them to "cdr" type images with Disk Utility (a cdr is the same as an iso).

Just confirmed it, the mounted Toast image (the Mac partition anyway) appears in Basillisk. And it's lightning fast.

Side effect is, Shutting down in Basillisk, ejects the mounted Toast image from Mac OS 7, also ejecting it from OSX. If there is a Windows partition on the mounted disc image, it stays mounted in OSX.

Well, I guess then I have an old build of Basilisk, because toast images don't mount (what software do you have?) and it also doesn't have a startup sound. I got my copy of Basilisk II from a pre-loaded version, which came from my cousin.

I have always added a toast file as a hard drive in bassillisk/sheepshaver. No need to mount it as an OS disk or anything. If you have the file set to read only it will pass the "Is it a CD" test that Mac OS uses.

rpangrazio is right. You can just add the images as a hard disk in the Basilisk II GUI. No need to mount as a CD in the host system!

Hmm...I suppose I could do that, but then they'd appear every time I start up.

P.S.: I downloaded 1.0.20091004 yesterday (via Emaculation) and it's still pretty slow on my Mac. Are you sure you aren't referring to the PC version?

Which Mac and OS do you use for Basilisk ?

I use an old version (build 16 from 2004) in preference to the later builds.

Should be fine on that. When I've used it on my Mac Pro (but only OSX 10.5) it's been fine.

Go to admit that I keep the setings the same as when I used o run it on my MDD G4, ie. 10fps at 800x600. which doesn't tax it at all. I'm sure there are those that try to run it at 1920x1200 @60fps with 512MB emulated RAM, etc. and it runs like ..., well like Vista.

@TempJoe: check out 'Graphical Disk Image Chooser' on this page; http://www.emaculation.com/doku.php/basilisk_ii for an intuitive way of handling disk images. Easy way to add or remove disk images to your emulated 68k Mac before starting up.
