Need Help! Cannot Install/Run 'Astronimica' on OS9 SheepShaver Emulator from DMG, IMG or CDR

Hello!

This is my first post in the forum here, hoping you all can help! I recently found an old CD-ROM of the Mac game 'Astronomica." I went through all the necessary steps to install OS9 through SheepShaver on my Macbook Pro (currently running Mavericks), but now can't get the game to run or even install.

I've tried the following methods:
- Mounting the physical CD prior to opening SheepShaver, but it will not recognize that the CD was mounted
- Copied all the contents of the CD to the shared folder, then within the OS9 partition, but when I try to run the 'Asto.app' file it tells me it can't find the help document and to insert the CD-ROM.
- Created a IMG and CDR versions of the disc, then added that as a mounted drive to the SS preferences (both versions, the IMG and CDR. When I do this though, it starts and says 'This disk is unreadable by this computer, do you want to initialize the disc?" and basically asks me to reformat that mounted disc image.

So that's where I'm stuck, can't figure out how to get it up and running. Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated!

As of Mac OS 10.7.x SheepShaver doesn't recognize real CD-ROMs. You could try to 'Lock' the images you add to SS via preferences. Right-click the image in OS X, chose 'Show Info' and tick the box next to 'Locked'.

SS treats a locked image as CD-ROM ie 'Read-Only' media. When un-locked SS expects the image to a Mac Volume ie 'Read-and-Write'.

Ah, ok, let me try that. Is there a type of image I should be making it? I know not a DMG- but should it be an IMG or CDR?

I think CDR is right.

Unfortunately, just tried, still getting the same error that "The disk is unreadable by this computer. Do you want to initialize this disk?" Then asks me to format it.

Any idea why that would happen?

Just two quick ones;
– you're not mounting the disk images in OS X prior to starting SheepShaver?
– which copier are you using making the disk images?
