Need help remembering an old gothic adventure game

I remember running through the demo several times. It was an old black and white text-based (with a picture of whatever room you were in) adventure game with a very gothic feel.

You started in a locked room, and had to check a desk and under a corner of a rug to find the key to get out. I believe there were also diary entries, and someone called Emily that you had to find. Once you were out of the room, there was a lady ghost who would drift away, and if you caught her she would moan at you. You were in a giant gothic house, and downstairs was a room with a sepulcher in it that I couldn't get past (possibly because it was a demo).

Does that sound familiar to anyone? My cousin and brother can vaguely remember the game itself, but not what it was called.

Thanks!

Edited to add: The last time I played this was probably in 1996 or so, so the details are a little fuzzy and could be off.

I was going to say Uninvited, until you said 1996.

Sorry, I wasn't very specific. We got the computer in 1993, but a friend gave us a bunch of old shareware from his (older) Mac, which had the demo on it.

It was very like what I've seen of Uninvited, except IIRC the entire left side of the screen was the picture, and you had to type commands into the right side. I don't remember their being any buttons that you could click, so it was either a low-tech knockoff of Uninvited (except the graphics were more complex), or it was from before point-and-click games. Again, though, it's been long enough that I could be misremembering it, so I'l definitely run through Uninvited just in case. Thanks!

The picture and text box panels make it sound like a WorldBuilder game, which I never played (but there are plenty on this site. I'm hoping that someone else chimes in with ideas.

I looked at the other WorldBuilder games, and you're absolutely right: that's exactly what it looked like. None of the ones that were listed had familiar names, but I'll run through the ones with similar themes just in case (and have fun in the process, I'm sure Laughing out loud).

Thanks for your help!
