OK to post Adobe InDesign 2.02 here?

CS5 is currently version 7.0x, so 2.02 is dangerously close to abandonware.

2.02 was the last version before switching to CS1

I think every InDesign version without footnote support is abandonware. Also, from what I know v2.0.2 did not work very well on Mac OS X neither does it on Mac OS 9. Everytime you shut it down and start again it crashes. Before starting up again after shutting down most of the time you have to reboot the system. Furthermore, v2.0.2 has no import filters for Word 5 anymore (which InDesign 1.5 had and which are necessary if you work with word processors like Nisus Writer and Claris XTND), and the import filters for Word 6 on Indesign 2, for some mysterious reason, do not preserve the selected fonts (something the import filter for Word 5 in Indesign 1.5 does). Even furthermore, I think you already mentioned it somewhere else, macmeister, table support for InDesign 2 leads to constant crashes. It was a shame anyway that Adobe wanted money for this crappy product.

I must agree with you xy, that InDesign 2 crashed a lot more often than thought possible with mainstream software. The 2.02 update helped slightly -- but the temp file recovery situation was the craziest catch22 ever. In some situations, the saved file was fine, and the RECOVERY file was corrupt, causing an endless, and utterly useless attempt to recover the (perfectly fine) original document.

Having said all that, I used InDesign two for a couple of years, and in that time did not lose a single document due to crashing. The fact that I began saving every 30 seconds, and after every single change while doing tables should give you an idea of how reliable this software was!

I thoroughly recommend version 1.5 elsewhere on this site - it was fast, rock-solid, and had all the features of 2.0.

I may still post 2.02 here for historical reasons - with a disclaimer.

PS. Giving InDesign 2.0x application hundreds of megabytes of RAM, did not improve it one bit Smile

Maybe the beta quality of InDesign 2 is the reason why PageMaker 7 is still offered for sale by Adobe.

haha could someone still post a copy of indesign 2 for collectors purposes though, even if it may be unreliable?
