Old Mac Archive (new website)

The Old Mac Archive is now open to the public. A couple of notes:

1) It is in no way affiliated with the Macintosh Garden, nor is it meant to replace it.

2) Do not make direct links on the Mac Garden to my archives; it is quite possible my archived software may not meet the standards of the Garden. Also, I am always revising my holdings, which will mean broken links for anyone foolish enough to post links on game or app pages. There are a few links I have made myself, but only because I am familiar with and willing to maintain them.

3) If there is software on my site that someone wants to upload to the Macintosh Garden, you must copy it to the Garden and/or your own mirror site and take responsibility for its standards and maintenance yourself.

Thanks. I found these files:

- System Software Edition April 1993 Developer CD
- Connectix Virtual PC 2.1 with Windows 95 CD
- Connectix Virtual PC 2.1 with Windows 98 CD

All of the above are rare. To be repacked in the future.

And most of all, you need to extract using MacRAR (Sorry, it didn't work, try using Windows via WinRAR). The following ISOs are available in my archive:

Do you have this collection backed up? Once we set up the new fileserver, there won't be any need for filehosting sites anymore.

I have it all on my hard drive at home. That computer is separated from the internet, however. Uploading those files again is not an option for me, so that's why I tell people to take them and spread them around. If anything happens to Mediafire or to my free account, it's lights out for me!

EDIT: I take that back slightly. The "CD-ROMs" folder is not backed up on my hard drive; it's too big. I do still have the actual CD's of my own that I uploaded. The others I got from this site or elsewhere on the web.

It was removed due for popularity low. Check other sites:

The reason is the file has been removed due for copyright. It was removed since October 2010, but I don't have a backup.
I've also checked the macgeek417's mediafire archive, missing too.

Hi MCP, many of your archives are split into parts (like, .sit.1 , .sit.2) - what software would be best to combine them? I mean, I'm on a Windows 7 machine and wondering if there's an app that will do it. Or maybe it's best done on OS X. Or on OS 9! You see, I really don't know what method was used to split the archives so I don't want to wreck the files..

StuffIt Expander. http://www.stuffit.com/downloads/index.html

My archives are done in formats that can be de-compressed on PC or Mac, no problem.

No problem. People become accustomed to complexity and can't believe that a separate program isn't needed for segmenting, etc. I've purposely made my archives as easy to use as possible. Actually, I'd really like to use .zip format for segmented archives, since newer versions of zip software support it, but there's no way to put them together again on older Macs, so StuffIt format makes the most sense. Same goes for .rar; whatever I use needs to work both on older Macs and on newer equipment both Mac and PC.

While using Stuffit to segment archives is the easiest and most logical method. There are other cross-platform methods.

http://www.hjsplit.org/mac/
ChunkJoiner provides a way for Classic Mac OS to rejoin segmented archive that use the .00x format.

A few of my archives are using the .00x format because I segmented them on Windows and didn't have Stuffit installed at the time. I found a copy of Stuffit 7.5 for Win and plan to re-segment them eventually.

But yeah, Stuffit is the way to go.
