OS 9 Web Developer setup year 2000 ?

Hey everyone,

I've got a question: What was the typical Web Developer setup using Mac OS 9 like in the year 2000?

What was used for writing the code?
Any good text-editors out there?
Any other must-have software utilities ?

Would love to hear from you.

I have an old MacFormat magazine from May 2000 here. It lists these as current for the time:

Dreamweaver 3
Flash 4
Freeway 2.0
GoClick 3.0.1
GoLive 4 (Adobe) GoLive 5 came out the same year
ImageStyler (Adobe)
PageMill 3.0 (Adobe)
LiveMotion 1.0 (Adobe)
BBEdit 5

For freeware web tools you could use
BBEdit Lite
Netscape/Mozilla Composer

There's probably more tho'.

Alpha, up to v7.3 was a first rate code editor for OS9, with it's built in validation modules.

I'm sure that I used DreamWeaver 4 for a while around then, and although very powerful, I hated the verbose HTML that it produced. People were still on dialup and 32K of comments and unused placeholders in a page that coulld be hand coded in under 4K was too inefficient.

Thanks a lot for responses, guys! Anyone having Alpha and might could upload it here? I'd much appreciate it.

I can relate to what you say about DreamWeaver, Bertyboy. To this day there is nothing like good hand-crafted code. That is why serious Web Developers would never use any such program. So my question was really pointing to what text-editor they used, what ftp program, (anyone remember if there were any good open source Content-Management-Systems back then?) and what utilities? (for code validation, producing rounded corners, etc. etc.)

Of course, I was hoping to get first hand experience from a (former) web dev Smile
