PowerBook Sleep Problem

I found a PowerBook G3 Wallstreet at a garage sale recently, but it has some problems regarding power. For some reason, when it goes into sleep mode, everything powers down as it should and the light blinks, but when I go to wake it up, the hard drive powers up, backlight turns on, but nothing shows up on the screen. There also seems to be an abnormally large amount of time between the Mac chime and hard drive spin-up on boot.

Does anybody have any suggestions? Thank you!

This sounds familiar. You don't give details of OS, Mem HD capacity and battery status - some of these may be relevant.

I have an original 14" Wallstreet 292 which I've upgraded CPU (G4 500), OS, Mem, Airport, & HD all beyond Apple spec. Mine bought new in July 1998 is still running using 10.4.11 (& 8.6, 9.22).

Start up time delay - maybe memory checking - I originally had 128 but upgraded to 512Mb (2x256) this increased start up time noticeably.

I presume you've eliminated battery problems by testing all this with continuous mains power - the pram battery probably needs replacing if you haven't already. Involves full disassembly as its under the shell near the touchpad.

Is it an original CPU and HD as there were sleep problems with some (especially early G3 CPU) upgrades?

I have a 13 inch Wallstreet running 9.2.2 with the original 292 MHz PowerPC 750 G3 CPU (Unless this is an upgrade CPU and it just looks like the original) and 384 MB of Ram. I tried replacing the HD, but the problem still persists. I removed the PRAM battery, thinking that was the problem, but the problem persisted. The battery is currently dead (lasts only a few minutes), so I only have a floppy drive and a cd drive in the two bays.

Sorry for responding so late!

Thanks!
