Quake 2 HELP!!!!

Hi guys i just installed Quake 2 on Mac OS X 10.4.11. The game works but i want to connect and play online. When i click refresh network list nothing happens. What do i do to get it working. I really want to kick some but online.

Your firewall needs to be open for the ports of the game...

i turned my firewall completely off and nothing.
