repairing a resource fork? recovering drivers for a 'steinberg midex 8’ midi interface

Hi All,

Tried this over at os9lives already, but thought i might throw it out here to the garden membership to see if anyone has any advice.

I am looking for the Midex 8 drivers as the ones hosted on the steinberg ftp don't seem to work, not sure if the vise installer is corrupt or what:

ftp://ftp.steinberg.net/Archives/Hardware//Midex_8//Mac//

Chris @ os9lives has been kind enough to look into some of this for me already and it seems as though steinberg may have corrupted the installer. The readme makes reference to a vise installer but the zip doesnt seem to have one that executes. This is our thread over there:

http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php?topic=1465.0

If anyone happens to have these drivers or knows of a way to fix the existing steinberg hosted file i would be forever in your debt.

thanks!

If you mean the 1st file you can see on that page link, "MacOS9.zip", then that file has been zipped using Mac OS X to do the "zipping".

It contains an OS X proprietary wrapper "_MACOSX" item (which will store-restore the resource fork to the classic component).

It requires unzipping on a system running Mac OS X.

To get the unzipped installer to a classic Mac OS in a useable form, you will need to use methods other than using Mac OS X's zip component.

I downloaded via ftp - unzipped in OSX (10.6) using OSX decompress - copied to Sheepshaver (MacOS 8.6) and the installer ran just fine under the emulator.

Install Midex-8 V 1.02
Type of Install: Easy Install
Installed Macintosh_HD:System Folder:OMS Folder:Midex OMS Driver
Installed Macintosh_HD:System Folder:Extensions:MidexMidiDriver
Installed Macintosh_HD:System Folder:Extensions:Midex8r2FWLoaderDriver

The installation is complete.

I can try on a real machine (Quicksilver G4 MacOS 9.2.2) if this still doesn't work for you.
Just make sure you don't expand it until you are booted on your OS 9 machine

On BOX.com compressed with DropStuff 5:

Or you can just try moving the four installed files to their destinations:

yes the trick to correctly unstuffing this midex8 driver is to do it on a snow leopard mac using a more recent version of stuffit that is not understood by the earlier powerpc version.
whoever at steinberg made this file is a knucklehead;)

there is another fixed working version that i recovered for the OP after much trouble on macos9lives.com if u do a search for midex8
i guess he started this thread before i actually was able to recover the file
