I use the SoftMac emulator for transfering B/W fiiles to mini vMac,

(SoftMac is a Standalone Emulator for Classic black and White and later 68k systems
runs up to OS 8.1)

I just interchange the virtual drives between each other after unstuffing them in SoftMac w/OS 7.6
and using Stuffit 5.5, once I get the uncompressed game folder,
I just copy it onto the Drive image that contains OS 6 or 7,
I Quit SoftMac,

then I change to mini vMac emulator and start with the files ready to play,

This method has work for me without any problems,
I just tested Mouse Stampede and works fine,

(BTW, I have to mention that if I interchange virtual Drives between basilisk and mini vMac,
the vMac drive gets corrupted, that's why I use SoftMac for this purpose)

I updated the Mouse Stampede file. It's now a zip. Extract it from Windows and insert the resulting Mouse Stampede.dsk file as a disk on vMac. You should have no more problems.

We see, the best way to upload stuff is to put the game files together inside of a Disk Copy 6.3 .img file, which just need to be unzipped/unstuffed/...

(all my uploads has been executed with .img.sit, except CD-ROM sources, has been uploaded as cdr.zip).

Is there any reason you use SoftMac instead of, say, Basilisk II? SoftMac is quite a crashy, slow emulator.

Probably the stuffit archive you tried simply CANNOT be unstuffed in Mini vMac, because the archive was created using a version of Stuffit that is not supported on the old Macintosh that vMac emulates. If you have this problem in the future, try Basilisk II. You can even unstuff the archive in Basilisk II and then mount up the hard disk image you used in Basilisk with vMac.

That's true for Mac OS 7 stuff. System 6 can't run Disk Copy 6.3, only version 4.0, and only people with an actual floppy drive can run it, because if it doesn't detect the drive, it refuses to run.

A better solution, in my humble opinion, is to convert the archive into a zipped DiskDup+ image. People no longer have to worry about what version of StuffIt they need and they can extract the file on any computer, be it Mac, Linux or Windows, and then just insert it on vMac/Mini vMac as a floppy. That's what I'm doing with troublesome System 6 archives.

Thanks, MacWise, I've to pay attention to the System 6 stuff from now on. You're right with zipped DiskDup+, that's a look into the future.

I use SoftMac because I had it way before Basilisk
That was the very first Mac emulator I found and was really easy to setup
specially for a beginner like me, also for testing new software in Sys7.6 before I use it in Basilisk

(Now, I use Basilisk as primary Emulator w/OS 8.1, thanks to all of You for your help setting it up)

I also still use SoftMac For transferring B/W games onto mini vMac
which cannot be open in Sys 6 using Stuffit 4,
thus avoiding ALL those problems and Issues discussed so often and repeatedly that a lot of users have when unstuffing B/W games within vMac, (Patience is not specially one of my virtues)

SoftMac can open/mount certain image drives that Basilisk can't, so it's very helpful,
and because it's portable.
it doesn't crash on me much, but the most annoying thimg for me is that it doesn't have a sound,
and some games(actually very few) are not well rendered,
but for running Applications (not games) is as good as Basilisk,
I have not had any problem at all.

I'd say I've had problems with most of the B/W Games I've downloaded, (a majority)
just a few have unstuffed succesfully within vMac, a lot of times the Stuffit 4 app,.
opens and closes right away, and sometimes just expands the folder with nothing inside,
So in order to do it safe, I use SoftMac for that purpose from the beginning,
and I just transfer them, doing it this way, ALL of the games have worked so far,
I don't remember what games, but I still have some B/W games that I have yet to expand/test.

I'm pretty sure that all of the files from the old garden need to be redone.

Each disk image contains games that start with the same letter. It's limited however: I only do freeware and shareware games from the 1980s...

Aaaah... I was looking for System 6 Hell. So you're webmaster of Emaculation? Awesome! I've been there before, although not following a link from Mac Garden. It's a very useful site and that includes System 6 Hell. Sure, it has no commercial title in there but that doesn't make it limited. In fact, if I have to do a list of my top ten favorite programs for the Mac ever, at least five of them will be freeware--at least.

Yeah, that one's mine. That site has been a hobby of mine for some time.

Indeed, there are a lot of fun shareware and freeware titles for the Mac. I'm going alphabetically, unfortunately, so it will be some time before I get to "Stunt Copter."
