Sheepshaver & Basilisk II can't open .sit files

Yesterday I set up sheep shaver on my OSX system with the instructions given by this site and it booted up fine but when I attempted to run the risk file that I downloaded from this site a message appeared that said, "The document "risk_II.img_.sit" could not be opened because the application program that created it can not be found. Could not find a translation extension with appropriate translators." I tried the same thing with the lode runner file given here but the same message appeared. After hours of looking around the internet for what might be wrong I was told that the problem would be fixed with basilisk, so I set that up using this site's instructions as well. The same message showed up for both games. I knew there had to be something I was missing since I was sure I followed the directions perfectly. I've installed the OS, disk, startup .img, and shared folder on both (also the 19 files on basilisk) and they both run just fine but neither of them are able to expand .sit files because they can't translate them. I was hoping someone would be able to tell me if I'm missing something to translate these files or if I'm just doing something horribly wrong because I'm so new to this. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated and if any of you tech gods would be able to resolve this problem for me I would be willing to build a monument to you so great it would make the statue of liberty look like a toy soldier by comparison. Thats how badly I want to play lode runner. Thank you!

Hi, you need to download and install the appropriate SW to expand the .sit-file. In this case you'll need Stuffit Expander which can be found here at MG. HTH! Smile

You may also expand most everything with The Unarchiver: http://wakaba.c3.cx/s/apps/unarchiver
As you have a OSX host for SheepShaver, the expanded files can be moved to your SheepShaver HDD via the shared volume without any trouble - or mounted by the SS Volumes pane in case they are of img /dsk type.

For basic info go here. Invariably, if you want to extract compressed ".sit" archives from within the emulator on Basilisk or SheepShaver, you need to do this with Aladdin's "Stuffit Expander" (version 5.5 is the good all-round choice). Before attempting to extract, archived files 1st need to be moved out of the shared folder (if you use this to transfer files into the emulator) and into an emulated hard drive.
