Sheepshaver doesn't open

I know there are other sheepshaver support threads on macintosh garden and beyond, but I haven't seen anyone post an issue like mine - Sheepshaver just doesn't open. At all, or ever. I'm trying to use the SheepShaver_UB_2012 0715 version. I have the shared folder set up and mac retail disk ready. Even if I didn't, shouldn't the app open? (BasliskII opens fine, right after I download it) I double click the app and it instantly closes. No message and it doesn't show up in the open applications list. I have tried opening it on os x 10.6.8 & 10.8.4 - it doesn't matter.

Im using a 2010 MacBook Pro 2.8ghz if that matters. Any ideas? I'm at a loss, I'm totally stuck at the absolute start.

Thanks!
Max

You have a compatible ROM file in place?

Sounds familiar. Usually the built in setup GUI should open at first start. This never happened for me too. Thought it was some Hackintosh related issue. The workaround for me is the standalone GUI available over at Emaculation. http://www.xs4all.nl/~ronaldpr/sheepshaverforum/SheepShaverPrefs.zip

Or open up Console and see what's added to the system.log or aplication sprecific log.

Got a better rom file myself by using tombviewer in basilisk, sheepshaver starts up now but im stuck at the blinking disk drive screen - which i think has to do with the os9 disk image im using not working. Is it really true that sheepshaver in 10.8 doesn't recognize actual CDs?? I use an external CD drive; does that matter?

I don't know about more recent Mac OS X versions (whether it can or cannot mount HFS CDs in SheepShaver), but you can add a disk image of a CD to the list of drive files SheepShaver can open, into it's GUI before booting up to Mac OS 9 or earlier. Alternatively, drag the image directly into the SheepShaver window when it is running.

Just remember to lock the CD image before adding/booting to it, so as not to write to the image (if you want to keep it as a pristine bootable System installer CD )

Fine, the emulated hardware is ready to use, the blinking disk drive mentions a missing operating system now.

SheepShaver on a 10.8 host has no support for physical CDs any more, true. Sad
Many people used the files from redundantrobot sheepshaver tutorial to get things rolling.
Note that you will need the Old World ROM if you should plan to run 7.6.1 or lower. Wink
