Stuffit Expander Problem

Hi there,

I have an old Power Mac 7200/75, with 24 MB of RAM and Mac Os 8.1, the problem is that i can't open some .sit files, the Stuffit Expander just pops out and closes automatically, without saying anything or uncompressing, i have tried to install another version of the program, with no luck, because all those files come compressed in a .sit format that i can't open, also tried with other applications, in some cases, i can uncompress and execute them (one is MacDraw) but not with all them.(MacPaint, MacAMP, MacDraw Pro, AppleWorks, Stuffit Deluxe and many more...)

Expecting your help, and apologizing for my bad english

See ya!... Smile

I'd recommend using Stuffit Deluxe version 5.5. I'd also recommend after installing to un-install (delete) all other versions of stuffit deluxe, expander, etc. I would further recommend rebuilding the desktop file (hold apple option at boot). If all else fails, open stuffit, hit open from the file menu, and open the archive the old fashioned way.

Best.

If you've used an installer, sometimes there is an option in that installer to uninstall. For many applications, an uninstall amounts to just throwing the application away, but for something integrated with the system, such as StuffIt, I would look for the uninstall option. What version are you using?

In particular, what is the version of the "Stuffit Engine" in the Extensions folder in the System Folder ?
There may also be a "Stuffit Plug-ins" folder in the Extensions folder ...

And a StuffitEngineShell extension too (in the Extensions folder).

If they're there, what are the versions ...

That's great, but can you tell us what version of StuffIt Expander was giving you trouble and what version of StuffIt Deluxe solved it for future reference?
