That's all folks - calling it a day.

Well, I have had all the retro fun I can, and now I must concentrate on more recent computers.

I have a 600MHz 12" G3 iBook (bad battery), as well as a stripped 1.25GHz USB 2.0 eMac (perfectly working, but without HDD, Optical Drive, RAM). eMac has brand new PRAM/Clock battery. If you are interested and in Tasmania, Australia -- you can still email me, and we can figure out a cheap price, and a delivery method. I am not interested in shipping these items - the eMac weighs 23+ Kg on its own.

Thanks everyone for your support and help.

I may be online here and there, keeping up with existing threads, but will be technically inactive from here on in. I wish this site the best of luck, and hope a new server is forthcoming, and my donation did not get spent on marijuana.

Cheers, and goodnight.

themacmeister.

I'm pretty sure your donation got spent on server costs. Even the current server costs quite a bit.

Unfortunately I'm not in control of financial stuff, so I have no idea what happens there — I just keep the machines running.

By the way, please don't get rid of any software you may have!

All my software is safe (until the CD's die, which some have already). The odds of me finding a taker for my systems here in Tasmania is VERY SLIM INDEED!

Cheers, see you all in the future.

If you're selling the iBook G3, it sounds just about perfect for my son. It'll get him off my Mac Pro. I'm UK just now, but I'll have emigrated to NZ around end March. With my 7 Macs.

@bertyboy: Erm... NZ is even further away from Tasmania (where themacmeister lives) than NSW (another state in Australia) where I live... and he already mentions that he doesn't want to post out of/inter state...

But don't fear ... I've been keeping tabs on "Trade Me", which is what NZ'rs prefer to use instead of eBay, and recently I've seen well specced eMacs selling for $NZ 50 and a MDD 1.25GHz G4 getting passed in at NZ$100. (he's currently asking NZ$200 for it, so good luck to him).

My interest in NZ'rs...? Native born and heading off to the Bay of Plenty for a couple of months in a weeks time Smile

That's a big jump bertyboy. Best of luck!

I wonder how long it'll take for you to miss the weather Wink

Ah, the Bay of Plenty. In-laws there now, and we'll be close enough based in Auckland. Auckland is also good for great deals on trademe.

You're right, maybe I should be checking trademe for bargains on G4's and the like, rather than paying a fortune to ship it (and insure it) around the world.

@bertyboy: You can't have enough old G4s laying around (or sitting back in the old country in storage).

My G4 DP 533 DA died last night - electrical power outages in the area (3 separate blackouts with-in an hour), I think a power surge was to blame. This was my fave G4 of all time, I have a DP 1 GHz QS 2002, so I'm not without a G4... Just, I was really attached to that 533 Sad

"Well, I have had all the retro fun I can" .... nah dude, I bet you'll be taking those words back in less than a year. Print out this forum thread and make a reminder to yourself to look at it in a year! hahahaha Wink

So long, man. I agree with amatech. You will be back to Mac OS 9 because Aqua and Windows 7 will make you loose your creativity. Also, beware of the electonic smog of Intel power chips.

I must admit, for someone who has given up, I am still intrigued by the possibilities of running OpenStep on a 2GHz machine (and if that extra speed is utilised). I am also still checking the Garden daily, and I am considering bringing the eMac back to its full former glory.

Watch this space... Smile

You'll be back. You know it Smile

In the meantime, this page might be of some help with getting newer hardware working under OPENSTEP.

Ouch. So there is a market (now) for my dual 533 DA in NZ ?

Looks like I'll be packing up my UK surge protectors (6-way x2) too, hoping all I have to do is cut the UK plug off and wire up an NZ plug (240V 50Hz also) and I'll be good to go, I'll even be able to use all my UK cables.

And old photo: http://img717.imageshack.us/i/dsc5571.jpg/
Out of shot are the PMG5, the G4 Cube, the SE and the 17" PBG4.

Just saw a G4 Cube on eBay, too expensive tho... Sad

Also, just bought a GP2X WiZ handheld emulator machine -- awwwwwesome!

PS. Is that 4 ZIP Drives? whoah!

3x Zip 100 and 1x Zip 250. I also have an external USB Zip 250. I've also only got 5 Zip 250 disks.

@bertyboy: Loved the pic. Excellent. The little nipper is the same as in your avitar? Anyhoo... yes there definitely is a market (now) for a dual 533 DA G4... but in NSW (probably), not NZ Smile

I've got all the bits (now) just waiting on a replacement with working PSU (and likely the mobo too) to come along...

@themacmeister: I think we may have to revise the title of this thread to "That's all folks - (I'm almost) calling it a day". Wink

PS, I was never too keen on the G4 Cube, I like lots-of-slots if I can get 'em.

The avatar is my daughter, the monkey in the pic is my other little one who's just turned 4, he's been using my Mac Pro since I got it, he was about 15 months, got his own account (which he dutifully switches to every time), his own home page and blog created with iWeb for the relatives to keep up to date (OK, I helped here) and long list of favourites in Firefox, and long list of movies in iTunes.

As a computer, the G4 Cube is just too slow, but I love mine. All the other Macs will be packed up and shipped before selling this house, but the Cube will come out and be used to "art up" the study.

@bertyboy: Well, beaut kids all the same. I hope they like the move to the Antipodes, too. Auckland Zoo is a great intro/ice breaker for kiddies, so put it onto your "must do once we've moved in and have a free moment", list.

Yep the Cube was eye candy and still is. Kind of like the TAM was (plus, ahead of its time). Still I prefer towers/slots & possible CPU upgrades tho', here (and am very envious of your collection in that photo).

@MTT, the little man had been over to NZ six times by his third birthday, so we know he loves it already, well at least anywhere he can ride his bike. Auckland Zoo will be a must-do, he's been to a few around the world already.

Bye Macmeister...sorry I never got the "post-season" issue of Classic Mac Zine out...some problem with full screen Basilisk screenshots. However, my retro gaming adventures aren't over. I have some software up my sleeve...
