Off Topic: JAVA 1.6 on OS X Leopard

I've become involved with the Arduino hobbyist community. They are just about to finish the next release of the Arduino IDE. It is currently in beta.

The current production release of the IDE (v1.0.6) uses JAVA 1.5 and works well with my Powwrbook G4 running the last version of Leopard (v10.5.Cool. JAVA 1.5 is part of the normal auto-update process of X.

But when I tried to use the Arduino beta, it complained that I needed JAVA 1.6 and would not run.

I complained to the Arduino developers (via their forum) but got mostly a "Too Bad, So Sad" style of response.

So how do I install & use JAVA 1.6 on my Leopard machine?

According to this article, and assuming you have all your java updates, you already have java6 installed, but won't work unless you have a 64-bit intel mac.
