Uninstall on Mac OS 9

In Mac OS 9 is there a general method for uninstalling applications? Or is the best you can do limited to deleting the application folder from the hard disk and hoping the installer didn't put too many unnecessary files in the system folder?

I dont know any app that can do this but i remember having an app somewere that monitor everything instal so it's easy to trash the app if you dont like it,when i have more time i willl try to find this app.

To uninstall:
1) the applications folder itself the one relating to the program to be deleted
2) Preference files from the system folder, that relate to the program in question.
3) Extensions that relate to the program
(System folder & extensions) or via extensions manager control panel.
4) Installer logs for the program in question.
These are often in the first level of the Start up system disk, or system folder. Simply use finder "find" files function to locate any outstanding bits of stuff for the trash.
5) Incertain specialised cases there may also be a Control Panel relating to the program, these are to be found in the system folder & Control panels folder.

Dragging the application folder to the Trash and emptying it is usually all you need to do.

Most applications make use of already existing System Extensions, etc. so nothing to remove. Often there will be Preference files left over in the Preferences folder of the System Folder, they don't take up too much space as a rule but if you feel like deleting them, you can.

If there are System Extensions that you want to disable, you can move them to the Trash but if they're being used by the System you won't be able to delete them until you next re-boot.

You can also use the Extensions Manager to turn Control Panels & Extensions on or off.

I agree with laurier, but as well, if the application has an Apple installer (or even third-party installer), you can sometimes select uninstall from the list, occasionally you can press option or shift, and select uninstall from the popup menu.

Failing the installer method, revert to laurier's manual method above. Also check for contextual menu items and folders in the System Folder (Claris etc). You cannot do a whole lot of damage removing non-system extensions/control panels/prefs, but just make sure they are not labelled Apple with the same version number of your OS Smile

I found two apps on one of my cd that could be usefull i have nerver try those apps.

Installer Observer can discover all changes that an installer has made by essentially comparing before and after states of the system, should work in OS9 ppc freeware

Yank uninstalls an application and files created by the application by moving them to the Trash.
work in Os7 to 8.1 maybe 9 fat-binary shareware look like it's abandonware now.

i can upload the two apps if any interest!!! i almost forgot there is Spring Cleaning here on MG
to delete apps i will try this one soon look very easy to use.
