Video Footage

Im hoping this thread might be used by anyone who has made a gameplay video of an old mac game and wants to point everyone else here in its direction. There could be a lot more footage on YouTube of old mac games, quite frequently when I do find some, its from someone here. EG, I don't know who posted the footage of Space Cab but they linked back to the garden's page for it

Anyhoo, capturing video on old macs is a bit tricky, programs like Snapz Pro cant capture good enough fps and most all in ones don't have any video out. I reckon these factors have limited the amount of gameplay footage available.

I picked up a VGA video capture device recently and have been grabbing footage of a bunch of things. The drawback of this is that I don't like putting up raw footage and much prefer to talk over the top of it. Yesterdays example is this one of ChaosCastle -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4xiRpLhb2M

My oration skills still need work (three vids in and I believe that its already improved a bit, yay life skill!) and my accent isn't palatable for everyone, but my point is that there isn't enough of this available for when old fans of the games go looking. I'll be doing a few more in the coming months, and I would encourage everyone else with the capabilities to get at it too

It is a sad fact that old mac games do not get enough love, video wise. I am happy that there are a few people who have posted gameplay and reviews of these older titles.

By making these videos I feel that it will get those who remember them to explore new games or revisit them. And those who don't know much about mac games to possibly get interested. I figure it is a way to make sure these games aren't forgotten.

On my youtube account KevinVsKalvin (http://tinyurl.com/ab5hswm), I have started to do reviews for some mac games. I have been recording footage from the basilisk emulator because it was proving to be difficult to record from my performa and original imac.

Another channel to look at is Killgruz (http://tinyurl.com/b3hexks), he has quite a few mac reviews on his channel as well. Some seem to be recorded on the computer and others have a camera on the monitor.

I agree that if people find channels or want to put up footage. This would be a good place to do it.

Here is an video capture application for old macs.

Works OK in many cases, and when it does not work I think it may be when a game takes total control of the mac

Is anyone interested in doing some co-op/pvp marathon or bolo or avara or something to film?
What's the best way to organise something like that?

I've also featured your channels on my channel. Please tell me if I've missed anyone.

I featured you guys as well.

I will check out that screen recorder when I have the time. Because I have noticed that when emulating on the basilisk some games run to fast.

I have discounted using sheepshaver because it runs slow with some games and has some sound lag, when recording.

Co-ops/pvp, I would be cool but I have to first see how my schedule is, now that I started work again.

Can you record videos of games like Monkey Island, Gabriel Knight etc. or even more demanding games like Riven or Phantasmagoria with the Spectator 1.0 on original Mac (i have a Macintosh Performa 6116 and an Imac G3)?

Oh, man, there's a whole thread for this, haha. Well, here's my channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/TanaraKuranov

I've got several Mac game reviews, including Vette!, Radical Castle, and Dark Castle, which seems to be my popular one. I'm working on doing Dubbelmoral! here in a little while. Capturing stuff on old Macs is a right pain, really. Once I have a job of some kind, I'm hoping to be able to get something to capture VGA output right off my G3 or something. There's a huge lack of Macintosh game footage, especially from that semi-modern era, where it's hard or impossible to emulate and also hard to capture footage.

Finally managed to do one for Greebles, getting this one together was a lot fiddleyer.

The video came out of the G3 through a VGA which went into a small box that i brought very cheaply from Hong King that converted it to S-Video. This then went to my Eye TV stick that was plugged into my Macbook Air and the screen was recorded by Screenflow.

It looks like arse, but no matter
