You can run a lot of the Mac Garden apps on that iMac without any extra software. Just copy them from the computer you downloaded them from to the iMac, and then play 'em.

For the really old games in black and white, use Mini vMac if they won't run natively in OS 9.

Not sure if there's an OS 9 version of Basilisk II, though...wouldn't think so. But with your setup you should be fine.

I use an emac 700mhz/40GB but i dont play with it much... and a quicksilver with 3 80Gig HDs, 1 for Tiger/9.22, 1 for Leopard, and 1 for file storage only.
But im looking for a G3 or a 604 PPC just because the G4 is too fast for some games.

I have an Indigo Clamshell iBook, cant remember the clock speed or the size of the hard disk but its enough to handle whatever 9.2.2 compatible things i do with it.

It was my second choice, i was after a Pismo but when you think your bid will stand on eBay and go to buy a potato for dinner, it never does

(and when your brother phones you to mention what he's just 'won', its doubly infuriating)

As some may remember, I'm a proud owner of a PowerMac G4 Dual 1 Ghz MDD that is my main computer for OS 9 & 10.4.11. Though OS 9 is my favorite.

It's even higher on my latest acquisition, a PowerBook G4 800 Mhz that runs OS 9 natively and makes a great machine for everything on the road. Having never played much with Notebooks so far I am impressed by the speed and comfort of the PowerBook. All in all, I'm overly excited about both my machines and hope to keep on using them in the years to come! (that said, always looking for great new mac classic apps)

nice, I'm jealous. I have a 1.67GHz PBG4 (from new), but it down't boot OS9 and it's 17", great screen but very big to carry about.

If you could have seen it, when I got it a few days ago - you would not have been jealous ... the young lady I got it from obviously lived in a very trashy home, the PowerBook was covered with dirt everywhere, the power cord was dark (yes, the one that is supposed to be white..), color chipping off the edges of the PowerBook and the display obviously had contact with something like a honey bread or something. All in all this poor little fellow falls into the "used and abused" category. This is one of the situations that leave you baffled - how can people treat something they paid so much money for so badly?

Spent a whole afternoon trying to fix it up and checking the hardware. It appears to work fine, although the optical drive seems to have problems reading from disc every now and then. Judging from the overall state of the PowerBook, I suspect the lens to be dirty and in need of getting cleaned. (anyone here with experience in doing that?)

But so far I really like it very much. Great OS 9 machine, capable of running everything I need. Haven't really tested the graphics performance yet, I wonder how good Deus Ex can run on it. I only noticed that it gets quickly very hot on the bottom side. Suppose that's the matter with all (?) TiBook models...

They have children. Ironically I let my kids use the Mac Pro (as it's easily replacable), and keep them away from the PMG5 and 2 PMG4's.

Oh yes, I used to have the first PBG4, 500MHz. toasty legs after a while. so I got a sheet of perspex with masking tape in rows across it, to sit it on. The rubber feet left enough space underneath to keep my legs from getting burned. The masking tape stopped it sliding down the perspex when it was at a steep angle.

I use my 8-core Mac Pro for Sheepshaver, and my dual 2.5 G5 for vMac, Basilisk and Classic.
I also have, but unused for abandonware, my dual 1GHz MDD, a dual 533MHz DA, a 17" PBG4, a Cube and an SE FD/HD.
Had and disposed of, a Classic II, an iMac G4, a Lombard PBG3, a 500MHz PBG4, a IIsi, a IIci, an iMac G3, a dual 500MHz Gigabit Ethernet G4, a 466MHz DA G4, a B&W G3, an 800MHz QS2002. I may have missed one or two.

Power Mac G4 Cube and a iMac G4that my father, sister and I play everything from Warcraft to Air combat on over the AirPorts installed.

Because my main machine is a PC a lot of stuff gets tested in Sheepshaver. After that it ends up running on either a iMac G3/500 or a Performa 5400/180. The really old stuff goes on a Classic II and the stuff too heavy for the iMac goes on a G4 Gigabit Ethernet.

I usually run them on a PowerBook G3 Wallstreet, but with an external VGA monitor because the built in 12" passive matrix LCD is truly awful.

Please don't dispose of Macs, there are plenty of people (here and elsewhere, check out lem-swap for example) who want them.

My Classic Mac that gets the most use is a Digital Audio G4, with an 867MHz CPU and 64MB ATi graphics card, both out of the Quicksilver series. She's got a beautiful 20" Cinema Display, the last in the clear plastic series before they went metal, and dual-boots OS 9.2.2 and 10.5.8, with OS 9 on a 30GB drive, and OS X on a 60GB drive, both ATA.

I've also got an AGP G4 tower, with a 1.8GHz Sonnet G4 CPU, and a 256MB Nvidia Graphics card. It's got an 80GB ATA drive, and an 18GB 10,000rpm Ultra-SCSI drive. This unit lives in the closet right now, with no OS currently loaded.

My oldest piece is a Quadra 950, still in fantastic condition. I bought it on eBay back in 1999. It's got the stock 33MHz '040, 148MB of RAM, a 4GB SCSI hard drive, and an internal 8x CD-ROM. It's running Mac OS 7.6.1. This one sits right next to the DA G4; under a black sheet when not in use, to keep it from yellowing. It's got an original Apple 13" RGB display (640x480 only), and an assortment of ADB mice and keyboards. It's got a red video card, I don't remember who made it, but it yields millions of colors.

I use a disk image of the Quadra's hard drive to run BasiliskII on my MacBook.

I used to have a Performa 6360 that I owned since brand new in 1996. I sold it on eBay a few years ago, and it was maxed out in just about every way. Sonet G3 300 CPU upgrade, 136MB RAM, 64MB ATi Radeon graphics card, ethernet card, A/V input cards, 32x CD-ROM, and an 80GB hard drive.

I have been using: iMac G4 15" , 700mhz. Works great!!! Mac OS 9.2.2 and Mac OS X 10.4.11 ... perfect for most apps from about 1997-2005 (approx).

iMac G4 17inch 800mhz, runs 9.2.2. Not to one up you, amatecha . A Powerbook G3 Wallstreet, running 8.6 and Debian Linux. And last but not least, a Centris 650 running AUX.

I use my PowerBook G4 for the games I can play on Classic, and prefer this Mac unless it's a flying simulation (which is my favorite type of game). In that case, I'll use my pimped out PPC 7100 which has an ADB Flightstick Pro joystick. Pure heaven.

There's nothing like the real deal when latency is a factor. Pinball on a real Mac is pure joy, but under an emulator I don't even want to go there.

Finally, I can now speak about my "other" Mac without a jinx (hopefully) since it has now shipped, just not arrived. Hopefully in the next week I'll be the proud owner of a "new" PPC 6500 which I can then start fixing up as well, although it's supposed to run well already. I bought it mainly for it's 250 MHz processor and 12x CD-ROM which will allow me to... you guessed it... expand my ability to play even more flight simulation games.

For most games and applications I use my PowerMac 7500. Upgraded the CPU to 120Mhz 604. 4Mb of video RAM and 256Kb L2 cache card, 4Gb SCSI drive give me loads of space. For B&W stuff my SE/30 works well there.

For anything else that needs faster hardware my iMac snow or B&W PowerMac fill that role.

IIfx, SE/30, PM 8100/80 and PB190 - almost all in a state of repair or being upgraded not to mention trying to get online and on a LAN.

I also have an LCIII, a PB170, a Quadra 950, a PM 7100/80 and a IIcx as well as some accessories that I'll be looking for good homes for in 2011.

I'd keep that Quadra 950!

I run Basilisk II on my brand new 27" iMac that I purchased literally a week and a half ago. This thing is amazing. I absolutely love being able to load at will my old-school mac desktop in a resolution of 2560x1440. Gigantic. I used to have a Quadra 950 before where I would transfer all my old files to and from via Floppy Disk. Took forever, but now I don't have to bother! ^^

I was looking at the iMac's just two days ago, but for me I think the 21.5" one is plenty big. Even that throws off a lot of heat in my opinion.

The bench tests for the new iMacs are INSANE. I can't believe the leap they taken! Your new machine probably knows what you want it to do, even before you've decided.

I use an eMac 1GHz (ATi Graphics), 1GB SDRAM, 60GB hard drive running both Mac OS 9.2.2 and Mac OS X 1.4.11. I switch between them using the Startup disk. I paid $130 for it at a used computer store. Considering this is the Northern Lights revision and despite it not coming with any software, I still think it was a great deal.

Years prior to buying this eMac, I would use an iMac G3 500MHz, 512MB SDRAM, 40GB hard drive running Mac OS 9.2.2. The monitor has been slowly dying so I bought that eMac.

Actually no, the problem with my monitor is it's slowly dimming and everything appears dark. It's not severe right now, but it was enough of a problem that I opted for something newer, beefier and being capable of running Mac OSX as well.

On these old iMacs, I find if the power board doesn't die, the monitor most definitely will. The monitor in mine will (probably) eventually dim so much that it will appear completely black. That's the only downfall with these older all-in-one iMacs really. It'd be nice if monitor repairs (or replacements) would be possible. Unfortunately I haven't heard anything about people fixing CRT monitors. Just TVs.

I did that once; fix an CRT monitor, a NOKIA something. It survived fairly long. You had three (IIRC) potentiometers to fiddle around with. Last thing to do, which I never did, was to adjust the 'rings' around the neck of the tube. This all was read from some web pages and performed letter by letter, so no deeper knowledge was involved in that resurrection.

Hey, how are you guys doing?? Long time peruser, first time poster. I'm running the majority of the apps on an iMac G4/700. Sometimes, I'll use them on an eMac 1.25 GHz as well, although really, I just use that one to do my Photoshop and Web Design work.

I have installed in my Imac (20" 2 gHz intel core 2 with 4 gb ram) the basilisk but i never use it. Very rarely just to test some games. I prefer a real machine. So...my favourite is my performa 6116. I have installed the sonnet nubus g3 at 500 mhz and one pds video card with 1 mb ram. I have 136 mb ram, 4.25 gb hard drive and a 4x cd. I use Mac OS 7.5.5 and mac os 9.04. In the indirect future i would like to buy an apple audio vision 14", a faster cd rom drive and all the necessary devices for the internet (modem, ethernet transreiver etc.) I also have the roland mt-32 sound device. The only problem is that there is a very little number of games that support roland (especially sierra games) but the music is fantastic. King's Quest 5, Gabriel Knight, Freddy Pharkas are so amazing with this device. I also have an imac g3 at 500 Mhz with 648 mb ram, 20 gb hard drive, 24x cd rom drive and ati 3d video card with 16mb ram. I have installed mac os 9.2 and mac os panther. I use this machine for more demanding games like Baldur's Gates, Quest for glory 5, Unreal Tournament etc.

Alas no, I have the restore DVDs from the previous model, same clock speed, but you have a higher screen resolution and a DL DVD-RW.

My fastest "Mac" is SheepShaver with a Mandriva Linux host system.
I am preferring that one to my old PPC7100 and my iMac bondi blue, which I hardly use.
I like to have everything in machine and everything working in Classic emulation, as far as this can be done with 7.6 to 9.0 or MiniVMac running in SheepShaver. Enough possibilities for me anyway.

Outside, I like my Eee, again with SheepShaver / Mandriva, for playing some games.

I have a 600MHz iBook G3 (dual-USB) 12" (1024x768) 384MB RAM. This is my everyday OS9 machine, and suits me for just about anything. I have never tried an OS besides 9.2.x, but I fear the minimum would only be 9.1 anyway.

I also have a 1.25GHz G4 eMac, 2GHz RAM, which does for all my OSX Leopard software, and quite a few games run under "Classic" mode, I use the term loosely, as there is no Classic mode under OSX 10.5.x. A surprising number of games work under the OS however. The ones that don't run go onto the iBook.

Mainly, I use Mini vMac on an old Sony Laptop running Fedora 14. I love the simplicity of the old black and white, singletasking nature of System 6 and it runs insanely well even on marginal hardware.

reminds me of when I bought my PowerBook G4 (Titanium 500MHz) which I took to work every day - even 5 years later people still asked if it was a new laptop.

Anyway, brand new, less than an inch thick with everything I needed. Mate asks about it and I list all the features. He says he's going to get one too. He comes back a few days later and says he's ordered a Dell instead, with all the same stuff. It arrives a week later, it's about 5 inches thick, plastic and 3x as heavy as mine. It was about 5% cheaper though. Like you say, it was king of big for a laptop.

I don't have any real hardware at the moment (and probably never will as prices for classic Mac hardware in good condition have been going up recently) but I run Mini vMac+System 6 on my old P3 laptop and SheepShaver+OS 9 on my main desktop.

Macintosh Classic 2MB and Powerbook Duo 230. I can't play on those emulators, I need the real thing!!
