Deus Ex is the highly acclaimed FPS/action-RPG from the same developer as System Shock.
Note: Don't apply the 1.0.3 patch unless you plan to play online because you won't be able to configure InputSprocket any longer. If you are going to play online, backup the single-player version first.

You don't need no-cd, you just have to create a mini image with label "Deus Ex" containing just one folder "Textures" with "palettes.utx" (the file you mentioned) inside. That's enough to fool CD checking procedure. And you need to do full setup of the game, needless to say. Before to run the game you just need to mount that mini image. I've tested the game only under Classic Environment. In case of CE anything that presents itself as volume will play, a .dmg for example.
No need to copy anything, just mount the image and play man.
why doesnt the game go past the 'system requirements' test then? i dont get it, i did a full install and the game still asks for the cd. do i have to keep the deus ex no cd.img mounted or am i supposed to copy it to my textures folder? because i did the latter and nothin happened.
Sighh its always people like you lol. You dont need to copy anything from the no-cd patch, just mount the .image and play away.
Cheers!
its not that i'm "too cheap" as you put it, it's that i don't have a cd burner in order to burn that cd with, and that i wouldn't exactly call 687 mb "$0.03 worth of hard disk" with the way that the drive inside my mac wasnt big to begin with, let alone with different things ive found on the garden that i wouldn't dream of removin just so i can test out a game that i'm not even sure i'd like or of the probable likelihood of causin the infamous "will this unexpectedly quit or cause a freeze or a system error despite havin plenty of ram available?" problem that various programs have caused.
oh, and about the no-cd patch, i don't know what that "palettes.utx" thing is for, but i still get the "insert deus ex cd" error after copyin it to my textures folder. i thought a no-cd would be a cracked version of the program that runs without the cd, not some garbage file that doesnt help the game do squat. fyi, im still on that 'select rave or software render' screen you get when you first run the game and the only button that works is "quit". "ok" just repeats the error.
For everyones sake Ive added a no-cd patch.
Be greatful!
I can't believe that you're too cheap to burn a $0.09 CD or use $0.03 worth of hard disk for the disc image.
I believe that there may be a Deus Ex NoCD patch in the bundle of NoCDs discussed in another thread.
i did a full install like i should have accordin to the readme but unlike pc games, no-cd cracks for mac are impossible to find on google. much like carmageddon, if i want to be able to play this game i end up havin to keep the bulky image present on my hd and mounted in toast or i get a stupid "insert cd" error. thats very gay, as other games like sin for example, work just fine without an image mounted.
Ok, thanks, I was just wondering.
To the best of my knowledge, SheepShaver emulates 100 MHz G4 and Deus Ex needs a 233 MHz G3 at least, so I guess not. But you can still buy the Windows version from about anywhere on the web.
Does it work welll in Emulation? (Sheepshaver)
Was just wondering if anyone had this... Great minds think alike, apparently!
Deus Ex is one of the best games ever simply because you decide how are you going to play. You can be like a soldier, running around with guns blazing, or like a law-enforcement agent, using non-lethal force to take down the bad guys, or like a spy, completing the mission without anybody knowing you were there. It's your choice. That's why this game is highly replayable--you can always find new ways of beating it.
