"Pathways into Darkness was the first FPS developed by Bungie (of Marathon and Halo fame) and placed the player in the shoes of a special forces operative that has to advance through several dungeons filled with all sorts of horrors (some lifted from Lovecraftian lore) in order to save the world. Unlike their later FPSs PiD includes a number of adventure touches such as NPC interaction, inventory management, and other assorted means of interacting with the game world (such as examining, using, etc.). The overall design puts an emphasis on puzzle solving over firefights as the player character is usually underpowered when fighting against his foes." --MobyGames.com

Note: If you DL the original version 1.1 floppy images here and want to play this game. You also absolutely need to DL the PDF manual above, too. These images require activation and the clues for activation are located in random locations in the manual. Once activated and you 1st save a game, you won't be bothered by this requirement again.
The PDF manual above, was scanned by MCP, its also included in the larger 26 MB DL above.
This is an earlier game from the makers of the Marathon Trilogy. Bungie.org, a Bungie fan site, still maintains a resource site for Pathways Into Darkness.
See also Marathon, Marathon 2 and Marathon Infinity.
CompatibilityOnly runs in 256 colors.

I recently uploaded a video walkthrough of the entire game on YouTube if anybody is stuck at a certain place. It's so cool that Man Up Time brought this great game to OS X for more people to enjoy!
This is now available (freely) for OS X via the Mac App Store. It's officially sanctioned from Bungie. (And you might not realise, but the manual's included too - accessible from the Help menu.)
I also interviewed Bruce Morrison, one of the guys behind the port, about this, his time at Freeverse (he was a producer there from around 2004-11), and his recent game development work.
Any chance of the OEM CD version appearing here? Can't find that thing anywhere.
I DL'd the above (26.79 MB) zip and used MacZip to extract the archive. It did so correctly and all .dsk images were mountable in DiskDup+ and ShrinkWrap and Disk Copy 6x - Their provided MD5 checksums also matched. So something that you were doing was failing. However its good that at least Disk Copy worked for you.
After unzipping the archive with MacZip, I found that both DiskDup Pro and Shrinkwrap 3.5.1 were unable to mount the .dsk files. They both reported the images were damaged - dragging and dropping the .dsk images onto the DiskCopy (v 6.3.3) application DID work, though.
SO, DiskCopy is your friend, folks
Thanks for the help
They are DiskDup+ disk images. However, the archiver has used MacZip to create the .zip archive they are stored in and unless you use MacZip to unzip these under "Classic" or a native classic Mac OS, they do not decompress correctly. Their Mac resource forks plus Creator & File Type codes will be missing.
MacZip stores/restores Mac resource forks using its own proprietary scheme. So if you can, use MacZip to restore this archive (drag the zip archive onto a closed MacZip icon to extract). MacZip is available here at the Garden.
Otherwise, try dragging the ".dsk" as is, onto a Disk Copy 6 icon, I think I've had success that way. Or if you know the Creator & File Type codes for DiskDup files you can change these manually using ResEdit or a utility designed for this, such as Creator Changer.
If using an emulator, you can also mount .dsk files as disk drives by either designating them as drive files in the GUI or dragging them onto the emulator's window while it is running.
Soooo.... What exactly do I do with these .dsk files? No program I have is working with them - are they from Sheepshaver or something? Diskdup Pro, Shrinkwrap 3.5.1 and ADFS all do not recognize them as valid images
I've added to the archive full documentation in PDF, including the Official Hint Book.
This is the first game I ever played on my 7100. I like it, but I love Marathon.
This game is mad, and if you have a friend who is easily creeped out then you must force them to try and play this game or at least watch. I wish modern games were as cool as this, Doom 3 doesn't even hold a candle to this.
Hey for a moment I thought you wrote, "Jesus loves this game."
Jesus I love this game
MacGarden, May your servers never go dark.
One of the best games ever made. One of the first games I downloaded from here.
