I cursed my luck again as I slid down the monkey's throat. Have my dreams of guzzling grog and plundering galleons been reduced to this?
"Three small trials and you're a pirate like us," they said. Fair enough. If only I could stomach the foul brew these scurvy seadogs swilled, the rest would be easy.
How could I have known I'd meet a powerful and beautiful woman with a jealous suitor too stupid to realize he'd been dead for years? And how can I crawl through this great stone monkey to find a man who walks three inches above the ground and sets fire to his beard every morning?

I understand. Thanks for the information. I'll save MI1 for a future project.
Papa - I think you machine and OS are too modern.
MI1 would probably be more stable running 7.1 in Basilisk under OSX.
Yes it is.
Remember, this game is from 1990 so the older the OS the more stable it is likely to be.
7.1 - 7.5 will probably produce the best results.
I've played the whole game on a G3 Wallstreet running 8.6.
Although occasionally the music track will start to loop and need to be restarted.
As I said before save your game early and often.
The external Mega link is dead. Is that the same as the game pack link?
I recommend saving the game early and often.
It seems to help avoid certain troublesome spots.
No luck. MI1 from the first download file on the page got past the credits animation, but froze the whole Mac when I entered Scumm Bar. I guess I'll just have to be satisfied with MI2.
I downloaded the Lucas Arts 3-pack. Monkey Island 2 seems to work fine, but both Monkey Island 1 and Indy in Atlantis play through the opening credits animation then freeze the whole Mac. Hard reboot with the power switch is the only thing that works.
I will try downloading the MI1-only package and see if it works any better.
I'm using a Power Mac G4 Cube running OS J1-9.2.2.
I have tried it on my TAM, and it freezes at the end of the intro. Tomorrow I wll try disabling te extensions and a couple other things to see if it works.
If you got a more complete version of this game, please download it to this page and/or provide a download link. Thanks in advance.
Yup finished this one without problems. Some distortion in the music at the very end in the "Turn off the computer and go to sleep" loop and a small freeze with no crash after visiting the SCUMM Bar. I feel i should make some notes: This is the cracked version, no "quiz" at the beginning of the game at launch. The data files consist of one small MONKEY.000 file and one big MONKEY.001. My version is clean, several MONKEY.00x files of around 900k, but includes a clarisworks document with the pirate hanging dates to solve the quiz. I have no glitches with that one. The application size on both versions is the same, but have a creation date difference of something around one hour between them, which i consider weird. I would love to see some opinions/reactions about this.
Tested without problems on the following machines:
1) Performa 6116 with sonnet nubus G3 500Mhz (i finished it with this machine) (Os 7.6.1 & 8.1)
2) Imac G3 500 Mhz (Mac Os 9.2)
3) Powerbook 540c (System 7.5.3)
4) Powermac G4 MDD (Os 9.2.2)
This is probably one of my favorites. I am kinda surprised that there are many people experiencing problems with it. I run it on a powerbook duo 280 with macos 7.6.1 and works perfect. I also tested it on a mac IIsi, and a quadra660. On powermacs it freezes after the intro when Guybrush is about to meet the lookout. I will test the version from here, and if i find the mentioned glitches, i will be happy to replace this.
Hi Guys,
I had trying this game (and Monkey Island II) in a real Performa 520 and in a Macintosh LCii. The music didn't work properly, the syncronization seems to be bad and there are som "blips" and "scrtchs". I had readed at this forum and at others that it doesnt work either using Basilik or other emulators. Is there anyone who knows how fix the problem in a real retro-macintosh? Thanks. (sorry for my poor english).
It was just too tempting!
I'm sorry! I opened it! Before I even read your response!
Don´t bother with eBay, you´ll just get lost. In exchange for this advice I´ll take this problems of your hands. Just put it in good packaging, PM me for the address details and you´ll recieve no more than all your expences for p&p. Yes, I know this generousity is seldom experienced nowadays, but in order to keep a professional attitude in our comitment, be prepared to hold up specified notes on the details of your expences according to p&p. After recieving such detailed information in easily verified documents and statement of origins to each of them, I will after examining the delivered goods in presence of a forwarding agent, rush the accepted amount to your stated account. Of course with my expences drawn from it but nonetheless; in your country's currency!
Nota Bene: Don't mentioned this most generous offer to anyone! You will not find anything which can be compared to it as my estimated value of the piece of software you mention is mostly, if not totally, based on your honest and sincere apparation here. The SW on it's own is of so small value I´ll not embarass you mention it public.
However, if you, by some misguidance from lesser knowing beings should entangle yourself on the Bazaar of the mentally deranged, which I here and now finally and strongly advices against; you´ll be standing on the slope of social catastrophy which inevitable leads to the sadly to well known syndrome no longer mastering social communication. You will be deemed forever start any conversation locked in your nightmare come true 'more, more MORE!'. Old firends will run on sight, FB will at last incorporate the 'Dislike' button on a massive demand due to your not yet closed account; in short it isn't worth it.
So let me put your uneasy mind at peace, rest at night assured it couldn't be any other choice, really. All by accepting my 'One-in-a-lifetime-offer' and defy your future as a roving valuer of goods of esoteric value. Remember: Not a word to any other living soul! Or it's all lost!

Hey I found a sealed copy of this game (mac version, of corse). How much money should I sell it for on eBay?
I've emmigrated half way around the world since. floppies are somewhere in a box, SE is still wrapped up under the stairs.
bertyboy, I was wondering if you had a chance the image the floppies yet? I created a request:

Does anyone know if there was ever a localized Mac version of this great game?
I'd love to introduce my 8 year old nephew to the world of 2D adventures, alas, English is a no-go for him. We need the German version, if it exists on the Mac. Anyone ever seen it or could maybe even upload it, please?
There is a conflict with this game and Apple Sound Manger extension. Disabling this extension and rebooting may solve your problems.
How do I turn off the graphics smoothing?? I can't stand it! It looks like a stupid flash game with the filter on!!
Don't thank me yet, it may be June before the SE sees daylight next, I had it out only about 4-5 weeks ago.
That would be awesome! I really want to play this on my PB Duo 270c... I've been playing SimCity Classic on it, in the meantime...
I have the original floppy disks, but unfortunately it's one of those very few games / apps that I don't have them permanently imaged on my HD (nearly every original floppy I ever had has been imaged into a folder of only 470MB). Once every few months a game or app comes up here, with issues, and I think "I have that" only to find I don't have the disks imaged. Doh!. Indiana Jones is the same. Next time I get my SE out, and the floppies (in their original boxes) I'll image them and add them to the upload.
Definitely one of the best games of all time... Spent countless hours on the PC and Amiga versions... This specific archive seems to have issues as it crashes on both a Color Classic with LC550 upgrade (030 33mhz) and 36MB of RAM, as well as on a PowerBook Duo 270c with 12 MB of RAM (using virtual memory, 24MB). Both machines on 7.5.3, and I have even tried booting with all extensions off, to no avail. Anyone else running into this problem? The game will "freeze" within a couple of minutes of playtime, sometimes immediately after the intro (while talking to the lookout).
how do you get it on iphone?
Use ScummVM or get it on iPhone.
The easiest way to run this and other LucasArts game in os X is to use ScummVM. http://www.scummvm.org
Works fairly well in Basilisk II although the sound (music, mostly) is a little bit off.
Runs in Mac OS 7 or later.
Beyond this, it needs to be noted that Monkey Island is one of the greatest adventure games ever made! The first sequel is just as good.
Edit: Replaced 'xxx7' with 'Mac OS 7' - IIGS User
