The Manhole is a computer adventure game intended for children in which the player opens a manhole and reveals a gigantic beanstalk that can be climbed either up or down, leading to fantastic worlds in either case. [...] The Manhole is a notable computer game because like Cosmic Osmo and Spelunx it has no goal and no end; the object is simply to explore and have fun.

Can anyone help me locate the original 1988 CD-ROM release in b&w?
I looked *everywhere* on the internet, including eBay and the like, and it just seems to have disappeared into the ether.
I don't know much about the newer version - does it play in b&w identical to the original or was it a color Mac 'only' release?
Any chance this will become available anytime soon? I'd love to play it again.
I think this will run this site into more trouble than it already has (see COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENTS: Take down EA Games for details).
This has been unavailable for many years...
Okay, It's only been unavailable for a little over a year, but I'd really like to play this.
Perhaps you should think about setting up that donation button?
It worked! Thanks a bunch. Although (just like MYST) it doesn't play certain movies and some sequences speed up dramatically. The concept in this game is excellent.
Add the Manhole.img just like your "SheepShaver Volume.dmg" to the SheepShaver drives list before booting it up.
The CD may include some invisible stuff which will not be copied if copied manually?
Same thing goes for Cosmic Osmo (CD).
Mac OS X Leopard. Version 10.5.8. 2.1 GHz PowerPC G5. Her are the specific steps of what I did.
*First I open the .img file on my normal desktop.
*Then "The Manhole" volume appears.
*Then I go to the Sheepshaver folder and open the disk image titled "SheepShaver volume.dmg".
*Once the Sheepshaver volume is opened, I copy the following from the Manhole volume to the SS volume: The Manhole, and The Manhole files.
*I eject the SS volume.
*I turn on SS and start up The Manhole, but get this message: "Can't find required sources. Please make sure The Manhole CD-ROM is ready and start The Manhole again."
Then I asked you what to do and you said that the disc image needs to be mounted while I play. So then I tried making an alias of The Manhole volume in the desktop folder. But when I open it in SS it gives me the message, "Please insert the disc: The Manhole." After that I tried putting the .img file from before in SS, but it says that I need something called Disk Copy to mount it.
...That's all the details. Can anyone help?
What kind of hardware and software are you using? An actual Mac? An emulator? What system version?
I don't get it. I tried making an alias of the disk, but when I open it in SS it says to insert The Manhole CD-ROM. I also tried just putting in the .img file but that doesn't work because it says I need Disk Copy to run it. Could you give me specific details of what to do?
You have to keep the disc image mounted while you play.
I tried it, but I says to insert CD-ROM first. What's that all about?
