MacX is an X window system display server (X11.R4) for the Macintosh. The server allows network-based Unix X-client applications to run via an X session on the Macintosh desktop. Included are Disk Copy 4.2 images of the MacX 1.2 application and supporting MacTCP extensions as well as the required Fonts. The MacX Communications software for version 1.1.7 is also included for reference only, as well as the Macintosh Communications Toolbox 1.0 installer for System 6 that came with my original MacX distribution. MacX expects the contents of the three fonts disk images to be in a folder called MacX Fonts. Unpack the download using MacZip.
CompatibilityVersion 1.2 runs on any 68k Macintosh computer using Mac OS 6.0.5 through to 7, or A/UX.
Some informative links can be found at http://blogs.dailynews.com/click/2008/04/30/macx-the-software-you-need-to/ In particular, there is a link to a fix that makes MacX 1.2 run on some PowerPCs.
