Emulation
Guides on emulating older applications

An X Server for the Classic Macintosh. It has the requisite features (host allow/deny, background configurability, etc.) and comes with twm, although you can use any other window manager. Allows you to use your classic Mac as an X terminal in a network environment -- MI/X works fine as an X terminal emulator. Performs a similar function to the Apple X Server software MacX. The first d/l is the PPC version (released 1998). The second d/l is the 68k version (released 1997).

Compatibility
Architecture: 68k PPC

Separate installers for either 68k & PPC macintosh.

I did not know that. It's not very intuitive.

You can access the files uploaded here by going into edit mode first. Eventually an admin will make the link work without having to do this. This is a problem with all new uploads here and it will probably always be with us.

The 68k link didn't work for me but armed with the filename, I was able to found it elsewhere. (MicroImages used to provide MI/X for free.)

It does work on my Quadra 650 running Mac OS 7.6.1. Easy to use. Could export a simple xterm (but the built-in twm didn't support well the Secure Keyboard option.) I could use ImageMagick after I allocated 24MB to the application, the default 4MB didn't do it.

Need to see how it behave with some more complex software.

I don't know whether the 68k version works with any version of System 6
