MacX is Apple's enchanced X Window System software for Power Macintosh and 68k Macintosh platforms. MacX's server implementation combined with X11R6.1 server technology, provides Mac OS users with the ability to concurrently access and display Macintosh applications and network-based X applications.
MacX version 2.0 offers significant enhancements from the previous versions. Primary among there is X11 release 6.1 compatibility.

CompatibilityRuns very well on Basilisk II (build 142, 32bit Win XP), screenshots 2 - 4 above: Pic 2 = xterm session. Pic 3 = Gedit text editor and open text document. Pic 4 = OpenOffice 3.x, editing Draw document. All shots taken as x-served to Basilisk II running Mac OS 7.6.1.
[Caveat] Basilisk II build 142, has excellent stable TCP/IP connectivity over 32bit Windows. MacX 2.0 may not work as smoothly in the JIT builds of Basilisk II or SheepShaver on other systems.
Comments
The more I use MacX 2, the more I appreciate its stability and speed. Even its quirky FTP plug-in PacerFTP (Comms Tool), has its merits. Previously I've used Exodus, not knowing of MacX 2's existance. Now I will only be using this on my classic Mac OS's. Thank you for archiving it here, Fortuna.
p.s. MacX 2 runs great on my beige G3 (Mac OS 9.1).
