Out of all the Aladdin StuffIt products, StuffIt Expander is the only free one. StuffIt Expander 3.0, the first version, was a combination of BinHex 5.0's "Download -> Application", the original only StuffIt product that was free, the UnStuffIt application, and Compact Pro's "Desktop-Expand" feature. As soon as the first version of the all-in-one StuffIt Expander was released, it became a "must-have" for Macintosh users to use Macintosh files from BBS or Internet. With the release of StuffIt Expander 3.5, Aladdin introduced the "Expander Enhancer" which was bundled with all later versions of ONLY StufIt Deluxe, allowing StuffIt Expander to unarchive standard archives on other platforms such as .zip and .tar.

This is one of the "must-have" utilities to use Macintosh software from the Internet, so it is provided here in both a 1.4MB HFS disk image which can be written to a high-density Macintosh floppy disk on any computer with a variable-speed floppy drive, then used on a Macintosh IIx or later, or mounted in a Macintosh emulator, and in MacBinary format for users who already have BinHex 5.0 or StuffIt Expander (although an earlier version) but also want to be able to "un-Stuff" the majority of archives here.

MacZip 1.06, another near-"must-have" utility, was also once on this page for some unknown reason, but the file has been removed from here and people who are looking for MacZip 1.06, remembering that they once found it here, should look on the MacZip 1.06 page instead.

Compatibility
Architecture: 68k PPC

StuffIt Expander 5.5 generally requires a Macintosh II or later running Mac OS 7.5 or later - it will refuse to install on Mac OS 7.1 or earlier, although it probably works if already installed when Mac OS 7.5 was used on even Mac OS 7.0, and will crash at launch on a Macintosh SE or earlier.

I uploaded a zipped toast version from the Old Mac Archive which is suitable for bootstrapping an emulator.

This saved my life. Cannot use CD/DVD under Win7_64bit. No way to get files across intact (my install was very minimal). This is a VERY useful post!

Above download link now works, as is. My thanks to the Macintosh Garden team.

sheepmyshaver123 - I am *impressed*!!! Laughing out loud

How did you do that? I wonder if you could find in the Apps "C" page for "Color It! 3.0 LE" and post a DL link for that one too? It also gets the XML "NoSuchKey" error and it has been bugging me no end. Anyway. You are a genius. Much thanks.

Someone mixed up my first upload of Stuffit Expander, which has been enclosed in a .cdr.zip file, which is also useable in Mac OS X systems. So my first upload was useable by Windows users, too.

I believe I've to re-create the stuffit deluxe download file as .cdr.zip again...
(if so, I've to remember to initialize the .cdr file in Mini vMac first to make it readable by Mini vMac/System 6.)

Please, read the Description *before* you jump to conclusions.

This is *not* a duplicate. It is an installer for Stuffit Expander 5.5 in a zipped .HFV file. It is (primarily) for Windows users running Basilisk II or Sheepshaver. It gives them an easy method to install the Expander by simply mounting the .HFV as a secondary drive and running the installer. Once they have done that they are welcome to *upgrade* to Stuffit Deluxe from the link you provided as that happens to be in a .sit archive and they will then be at last able to expand it without having to futz around with HFVExplorer, or worse - run Stuffit on a Windows box!

This may be a moot point anyway as at this point in time if I try to DL Stuffit Expander 5.5 - I get the dreaded XML "NoSuchKey" error which seems to be prevalent Sad
