90's dance producer looking for help

Hey, been using this website for a couple months and would like to say thank you, and introduce myself..

Im a 90's dance producer, producing primarily New Jack Swing, Euro-Reggae( think Ace of Base),New Age(Deep Forest, Enigma, "Pure Moods"), and ElectroFreestyle/Latin Freestyle Music..

Im using jv's, m1r, and a selection of other outboard midi gear/racks/romplers with my 2012 imac setup...

However, I recently bought a sapphire imac g3(OS 9), and a g3 clamshell ibook(OS 9)..And I was wondering:

How do i connect my modern midi controller with reBirth, reason, Logic and other DAWs?

All I have really tried so far is plugging it into the USB port, but I am sure there is no drivers for my "Nektar Panorama". Do I have to get an older MIDI controller and download the drivers somewhere? is there a setting in OS 9 that controls basic midi setup? I know i have to disable Appletalk.

Sorry for such a n00b question, but I am dying over here, and would really like help. I am really trying to get in touch with the sounds i heard when I was a boy and make the music I like in the EXACT same way those who came before me have.

Additionally...

How can I purchase music programs and DAWS legally besides ebay? are there any other resources besides this website? Or perhaps other popular abandonware sites? Specifically for music?

You'll need USB to MIDI adapter compatible with Mac Os 9 like this:

And you can take a look in:

make sure to review this info .. the m-audio branded midisport unos with clear blue plastic is not what u want.. u want hte lighter pale blue branded solid non see thru plastic branded MIDIMAN units..
these ones will work with os9.. the newer ones may work depending on this "chip location" but there is a risk u will buy and find out its useless under os9 and the driver will not work.

i have a roland um 880 8x8 usb midi interface which has os9 drivers ... one of many of these type of devices... be sure to check my 2ndpost from above.. i have tons of links to usb controllers that have drivers that support os9..

it was also possible to retrofit these imac g3s with a native oldschool 'serial port' for midi
see the info here:
www.geethree.com/support/supportstealth.html
http://www.geethree.com/stealth/index.html
http://www.geethree.com/stealth/install/imacinstall1a.html

this enables connectivity + compatibility to/with all oldworld original mid 90s non usb midi devices
