A Couple of Questions About Uploading

I've run across some old Macintosh software recently that I plan on uploading, and had some questions about doing so:

1. I know to use Disk Copy 4.2 for floppy disks, but what about for CDs? Does something like ImgBurn work?

2. Several of the programs I have are boxed, with manuals and other materials. How do uploads of manuals, other materials, and box scans work?

For those curious, here's what I know I have so far:
Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Transinium Challenge (boxed)
Maniac Sports (boxed)
Space Madness (boxed...I know it's already here, but hoping to get an original disk image, manuals, boxart, and other materials from it)
Mario's Time Machine

The person helping me with the floppies has a collection of Macintosh software, so in a couple of weeks, when spring break rolls around, we'll see if there's anything else we can find that's not archived yet!

Guess this post is a mix of asking for help and just getting you people excited. :3 I'll have videos about all of these at some point, so there's that, too (shameless plug).

With Disk Copy 4.2 floppy images, use Stuffit to create .sit archives of them, before uploading.

For CD's, ImgBurn is excellent at creating .ISO images of Mac CDs (Mac formatted and hybrid). Its what I prefer to use when archiving Mac HFS CD's ironically. Haven't made a coaster yet. You can zip compress the .iso prior to uploading.

Yeah, make them into .sit files before transferring them over, preserve the resource fork. Have to work with Windows when I record video of this stuff, Windows so much as touches those files, the resource fork is gone! You can get a low-color lossless codec that's perfect for recording old Mac stuff...on Windows. Kinda ironic.

I know you can have a manual as a separate link, but if there's other materials, I guess just have pictures/scans of it where the screenshots go? Or possibly in another archive? I've seen some stuff here where one archive was just the disk image, and another had all the manuals/cards/box scans/etc with it, like Dark Castle. So maybe I could go that route.

I'll figure something out as far as putting up the extra materials, I guess, good to know ImgBurn works well!

You can upload several manuals to a page, but only one gets listed under the main DL links Sad

Workaround is to manually place hard links to the uploaded manuals directly in the Description area of the page.

Okay, Maniac Sports is 535 MB, and that's in a .zip file. It goes over the 400 MB limit that's here. So...guess I'm wondering what to do about that. The box/manual/contents are all scanned and ready to upload, but it seems it's too big to do so, haha.

Oh, and there's only 60 MB free on the disk. Maniac Sports is an FMV-heavy game made before the days of good quality, efficient video codecs. So, it's big.

The other games I have aren't this big, and I'll get them up as soon as I get access to someone with Disk Copy 4.2. Just wondering what to do about this one.

What platform are you using to sit the CD? (Stuffit *.sit files are slightly smaller than .zip files,
but I think this file will not even fit into the 400 MB limit, when stuffed) .

When using Stuffit Deluxe's DropSegment application,
I've to discover that the file size of all parts together is the same as the orginal CD size.

Some peoples are using the .7z file format (me, too) , which creates much smaller file sizes.
When using 7zX on OS X, the file could even be splitted into parts ready to be uploaded here.
The user Mrdav, for example, used to create 7z files,
wrapped into the .zip layer to be accepted on the upload form.

It goes over the 400 MB limit that's here. So...guess I'm wondering what to do about that.

http://mega.co.nz/ is my current recommendation for large files. Fast upload/download speeds, and they haven't lost any of the 100GB+ I've uploaded in the last year and a half.

I know it's already here, but hoping to get an original disk image, manuals, boxart, and other materials from it

Thank you, those are appreciated!

Mission accomplished. We've had some close calls, but working copies of "Transinium Challenge" and "Mario's Time Machine" have always remained out of reach...

I guess I can upload it there, and if it ever has any problems, I'll still have the iso on my 2 TB drive, hah.

I have uploaded most of the material I have for Space Madness now. Still haven't copied the disk yet.

Speaking of which, I'm guessing Disk Copy 4.2 isn't going to work on a Mac OS 9 computer? I keep trying to get in touch with my friend who's got several System 6 computers, but keep getting delayed. Have a G3 tower with a floppy drive, though, and I believe Space Madness is on a 1.44 MB floppy, anyways. Meaning there's no tags to preserve in the first place. Transinium Challenge, I believe it comes on 400K/800K disks, so need to use 4.2 for that.

Couple of things I guess I should add/ask. First, should I have an account for uploading to that site? Or have files lasted without having an account?

Second, I see from forum topics here that say Disk Copy 4.2 has worked on OS 9 (and to use 4.2 even on 1.44 MB disks), so...I'll have to get that onto my G3 and see if that works later on today. I'll update with whether that works or not. If it does, should have disk images for Space Madness and Transinium Challenge later on. Mario's Time Machine, my friend has, so that may have to wait.

I don't know whether anonymous Mega uploads are permanent, so I use throwaway email addresses to register accounts (each holds 50 GB).

Please upload to the site. The limits have been removed.

Uploaded Maniac Sports, but the screenshot previews appear to be broken. Clicking on them will still bring up the images, though.

Should be fixed.

Many download links will be broken for a few days. This will be resolved.

Thanks, great news. Smile

Well, I'm an idiot. It's a G4 Blue & White tower with a Zip drive (can you tell I don't use it often?), so the floppies will have to wait, at least for a little bit. I tried.
