It works for me ... just use an IRC client to connect to irc://irc.freenode.net/macgarden .
I try to connect by link at up this site. Go to: https://www.mibbit.com/chat/?url=irc%3A%2F%2Firc.freenode.net%2F%23macga... and next receive communicate: "freenode.net terminate"
I didn't even know we had one. Does anyone use it?
I don't even know what IRC is, or means
Internet Relay Chat
, which means people can chat, like a multi person phone call.
I don't use it because, most of the time, there is nobody there, and its not fun to chat with yourself
Ah OK, thanks! well, I never liked chat programs,
I only used AOL long, time ago using those CDs they used to give away everywhere
with free internet hours,
I have not used chat ever since.
It's working!
There's a great add on for Firefox, Chatzilla. Just install it, click on IRC from the main page and you're good to go. I was just in chat but the others there were sleeping.
Bumping the thread after three-and-a-half years.
I have rediscovered the Macintosh Garden IRC channel, and like earlier explorers before me have found it dormant.
It's a pity if the channel isn't being used since it would be a fun way to get to know fellow retro-Mac fans that's more immediate than forums. We've even got a link to the channel in the navigation bar on every MG web page.
Am I just in the wrong time zone? Or do we IRC fans need to prime the pump? I'll try connecting regularly around 0:00 Japan time/15:00 UTC every day for a while and see if anyone joins me.
ircle (http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/ircle-304-us) seems to be a good, full-functioned IRC client. Give it a try.
...the Macintosh Garden IRC channel [...] ...Give it a try.
...I have, but my network's admin has since banned freenode.net from our networks.
Its their policy of using BOPM and freenode's terminology of its usage: "on occasion during post-connection analysis" --- "hammering our network" (our admin's interpretation of that term), that cuts me out.
I use a Chromebook for my day-to-day Internet access.
