I have an indigo 366MHz with firewire. It's a great laptop. As far as advice goes, make sure the power supply is good. The one mine came with had a worn wire just at the strain relief on the connecter on the iBook end and I had to rewire it. Looks like junk but it works. Also, if you are going to use it with an Airport card, make sure you have at least 10.3.9 on it so you have more wireless network options. I don't think anything below Panther will use WPA. Also, try to put as much RAM on it as you can. I'm running mine with 320MB. It's okay for light surfing and apps, but could use a little more RAM, especially if I ever put Tiger on it. Other than that, I can't really think of anything. They're great little laptops. Last I checked you can get an okay price on a new battery from Other World Computing if you plan on using it on the go a lot.

First thing that came to my mind when I read your question regarding the good old Clamshell was this recent article by LEM author Austin Leeds. Check it out, he wrote about the resurrection of his beloved iBook G3 in this series of articles. It has some good info in it.
