First of all, it's best to ask emulator support questions over at the E-Maculation forum.
Performance actually degraded, especially for games, in the latest 2014-03-01 version of Basilisk II. If you're using that version, I recommend using vasi's 2011 build instead. It is better, but still not as smooth as the 2009 build was in older versions of OS X. Also, if you upgrade to Mavericks performance may improve a bit. See this discussion. Of course, make sure the JIT compiler is enabled in BasiliskIIGUI.
Unfortunately, until an improved version of Basilisk II is released, the only way to get the smoothest possible performance on a machine running Mountain Lion or higher is to run the 2009 build of Basilisk II in something like a Snow Leopard Server virtual machine. Parallels is a good way to do this.
A virtual machine is sure nice to have.
With a C2D Mac or Hack I would prefer SL natively on another partition or FW HDD.

How do I use the "Option" key? When I hold it down and click, it does nothing, as if it locks up the machine. Also, is it possible to print something through BasiliskII and have it print on my real, current day printer? Thanks, guys.
The option+click problem is a known bug. See this.
One easy way to print files made in SheepShaver or Basilisk II is to use PrintToPDF. It creates a PDF through a given program's print dialog. You can then move the PDF using the shared folder to the host for printing.
