Caesar III no sounds and music?

I don't know if anyone else played Caesar III here from the Garden, but when I got it working I didn't have any sound or music. The only sound and music I've heard is at the intro screen before the menu, and cutscenes (house on fire).

I did a little looking into at my system and I went into the data folder of Caesar III and looked through the .wav files. I tried opening one up and it told me it needs QuickTime 5.0 . So I believe that is the problem.

However certain games require QuickTime 2.5 to run their music flawlessly as well. Is there no solution to everything with QuickTime?

Edit: PS, yes I do seem to have a big issue with my audio. http://macintoshgarden.org/forum/game-music-tripping-over-itself

wav files weren't initially supported by quicktime. i wonder if you could convert the wavs to something that quicktime 2.5 can play, but keeping the same .wav filename. See what happens. You might get lucky.

I decided to download QuickTime 5.0. How do I open a .sit file however that gives me this error?

"Unable to execute QuickTime Installer.smi
This file cannot be used on this file system. Copy to a Macintosh HFS or Macintosh Enhanced disk and try again. (-8812)"

QuickTime may be a red herring.

The audio with the game is wav files, and as with most Sierra software, the game suplies it own engine for playing the wav audio.
Further, the full requirements from the original box make no mention of QuickTime as a requirement, working in OS 7.6.1 through to QuickTime 7 in OSX 10.4 and Classic.

I'm assuming that you're trying to run this under SheepShaver, and support for audio may be the issue there. Which ROM are you using in SheepShaver ? Which OS in SS ? How much memory is allocated to the game ? How much is allocated to the emulated Mac in SheepShaver ?

To answer all your questions.
Rom: (it's labeled) Power Mac 7300 7500 8500 9500.rom
OS: 8.6
I don't know how to check how much memory is allocated to Caesar
To SS: 256 MB

Edit: Ok I think I know the problem why I was getting that QuickTime 5.0 message. It was trying to open an app called; Movie Player. And for that to work I think it needed QuickTime 5.0. However this still asks the question of how I can get Caesar III to play sounds and music.

Mark the application, call "File" -> "Get Info"

I´m no gamer, you know. Smile
Anyway the game´s sound and screenplay is working for me with this config:
Host: 10.8.1
Installation: Full
RAM: 33020 (default)
OS: 8.6
ROM: Oldworld
QT: 4.1.2
C-III shrinks its screen to 640x480 and I had to convert the dmg to toast to have it mounted in SheepShaver. The toast image must be mounted to run the game.

Fires seemed to be quite frequent then...

After converting the game file to toast and installing it does play sound for me.
OSX 10.8, MacOS 8.6, QT 4.1.2, full install, 640x480 pixel.
