Classic equivalent of Xcode

I'm looking for the latest version of Apple Xcode-like developer suite for Mac OS 9. I searched in many places, like macintoshgarden itself, sheepmyshaver's Mediafire archive, but latest version of Dev CD placed there dates back to 1999. Maybe there is newer one(2001 or 2002), compatible with the latest OS 9.2.2 and capable to build Carbon OSX-compatible applications.

Xcode AFAIK never ran in OS 9; even the early versions of the OS X dev tools (pre-Xcode) were ports of the NeXT developer tools. So although you can build Carbon projects in Xcode on OS X, Xcode itself can't run in OS 9 (I'm fairly sure it can build OS 9 compatible apps though).

MPW was Apple's premier programming suite in the classic days; it's what they used internally and it can build Carbon apps (which I believe are also cross compatible with 9 and X). MPW 3.5 is the latest version, and includes the C/C++ compilers for 68k and PPC as well as Assemblers for both platforms and Link and Rez, and of course the MPW Shell environment itself, which is an IDE like no other.

Try CodeWarrior. It has a decent IDE and you won't have to worry about screwing around in MPW's weird command-line oriented environment.

Thanks for help. Smile MPW is what I was looking for. I know, that there are CodeWarrior, RealBASIC, and similar, but I wanted original Apple programming tools.

But... I searched again my sources(macintoshgarden, wired, developer.apple.com) and most recent version I found is Macintosh Programmers Workshop 3.2. Maybe someone here has version 3.5 to upload?

If you go to the page here at the Garden for Macintosh Programmer's Workshop, check the comments. Balrog posted one with a link to a mirror of ftp.apple.com. Click through that to "developer/Tool_Chest/Core_Mac_OS_Tools/MPW_etc./MPW-GM_Images". In that folder is MPW-GM.img.bin, which is a macbinary compressed file containing a disk image that has the MPW folder all set up to copy to your drive, or there's a folder with that image in 24 floppy sized segments to transfer to an older unnetworked mac. That should be the 3.5 version.

Thanks again. I searched Apple FTP, and as far as I know(someone confirmed it at Apple Forums), Apple removed MPW from it's FTP, but earlier someone mirrored entire FTP: http://mirrors.vanadac.com/ftp.apple.com/developer/Tool_Chest/Core_Mac_O.... I downloaded MPW from here. Smile
