Might I suggest to the admins the possibility of a collaborative effort between the macintosh Garden and brokenstones.me a private Macintosh Only torrent tracker. This would certainly provide an answer to storage problems for larger games.

If brokenstones.me has the rare classic Mac OS betas and machine-specific classic OS installations, please let me know.
They really dont have any betas other than copland and phapsody. They don't have machine specific OS disc images just the regular retail ones and the Apple developer anthology. They are a good source for any Mac os 1.0 to 9.2.2. One place that i know of has a number of beta versions of the mac os is www.macgui.com
I wonder it is confirmed, but only shows leaked builds (7.5b2c2, 7.5.3a3c3, 8.0b5, 8.2d8, 8.7a6c2, OS X DR2, OS X DR3).

No, they don't. And don't think that I haven't looked into all possible options
this actully sounds like a really great idea
how would this work? - would we have to individually register? - that's a lot of of "invitation" codes - speaking of which I'm curious to see what they have and need an member's invite myself
I don´t think it´ll solve the storage problem. It´ll still be a question of how many seeders on each archive/file and I know the focus of BS is much more on new stuff than old. You´re better off announce your t0rr3nt on TPB where everyone can support without the need of register. If t0rr3nt is the way to go…
Been there, tried that. Torrents don't work for Macintosh Garden for these reasons.
Macintosh Garden is a low traffic site. Therefore there are not enough people to seed the torrent.
Since there are not enough people to seed the torrent, a server ends up seeding it.
This pretty much defeats the purpose of having a torrent, which is to avoid using any server bandwidth.
When things are first uploaded and made into a torrent, downloading is REALLY slow. I ended up finding a direct-download glitch so that i could actually download the games, which pretty much defeats the purpose of torrents.
last time I checked when files are shared using bittorent they are not stored on any server. They are only shared by individuals. If individuals stop seeding the torrent it is not seeded by a server the torrent becomes what is known as a dead torrent. Bittorent relies on the generosity of people to share their internet connection. Again there is no server containing files and therefore no direct download. Download are only slow when they are first seeded as more people share the file downloads get faster. My personal experiences with bittorent are great, I have never got the download speeds of bittorent with direct file downloading from a server. So I'm not sure where you get your information or you have bittorent confused with something else.
Got to agree with nmz502, he's explained it perfectly.
We tried torrents on this site previously, and while I have no doubt that you have an excellent understanding on torrents, they don't work here - there is just too little download activity.
What used to happen was I'd download a title, and seed it for a week, sometimes 2 weeks. During that time the bittorrent "chatter" to the tracker would amount to more than the size of the title, and I'd have no leechers. As a long-term high-volume storage solution for the site, where theprimary goal is to have some control over the network bandwidth consumed, it was a disaster, or "a leaning experience" if you want some spin on it.
@crazyp83m, yes, torrents work great when used correctly. Take the humble indie bundle 2. They have a torrent for each of the games, and they are MUCH faster that direct download.
And no, I don't have bittorent confused with something else. The admin used a special amazon s3 server with the ability to seed torrents, due to the fact that mac garden is a low traffic site, with not enough people to keep the torrents alive.
The torrents we tried before were not used correctly. I don't have the time or energy to write a frontend good enough for this site. Gazelle has a bad license and very, very ugly code. More importantly, I'm a systems programmer, not a web programmer. I'm better at fixing up emulators than writing web sites.
If someone wants to step up and help, go ahead. The big part is that we will need seeders.
Also, as for "bittorrent chatter" ... probably Amazon's trackers were set to update way too frequently. Most torrent sites have this set to 45 minutes, so there isn't much chatter at all. Amazon's can't be controlled.
Again, if someone is willing to step up ... I've been following work on a really promising project written in Python and Django. Please contact me (and post here that you did) and I'll take care of it
