DMG to Install disk

I have a DMG file that is a copy of the Tiger Disk 2 CD from the Tiger CD Install set of 4 disks.

How do I turn the file back into a CD that my Mac will recognize as Disk 2 when the Installer asks for it?

My tool set for doing this is exclusively Mac OS 9 stuff.

You could try Toast. No promises, Toast 7 handles .dmg, so maybe Toast 5 will too, but never tried it in all my time with Toast 5.

I also have this nagging doubt in the back of my head with OS X install disc images and .DMG disc images. Some work and some don't, those that don't tend to need to have been saved originally as .cdr / .iso. You'll probably be fine.

You'd mentioned in another thread that you had installed X on a spare computer to access .dmg files. Why don't you use that? The same tools on OS X that you use to access .dmg, can burn .dmg to CD. Disk Utility can burn to CD/DVD from a disk image.

Unfortunately that computer only has a DVD-ROM drive in it. And it is also the one I'm trying to install the new version on.

But I ultimately did just what you suggested as follows:
1) Erased and installed a copy of Panther on it
2) Set up a network connection to my OS 9 system
3) Copied the DMG file to the Panther system
4) Opened the DMG file
5) Opened Toast on my OS 9 system
6) Mounted the DMG Disk image on my Mac OS 9 hardware
7) Burned a copy of the disk image
Cool Installed Tiger using my newly burned disk

Convoluted but it worked.

Edit. Replaced 'xxx 7' with 'Mac OS 7' - IIGS User

If it works - It works! Great.
